Job Purpose
The Resident Marine Biologist / Dive Instructor (RMBDI) is a site based position. The main goals are: 1) Interact with clients about marine life; 2) Lead divers on private marine biology dives; 3) Lead non marine biology dives; 4) Teach courses. The RMBDI will coordinate the conservation diving program, assist the Dive Center Manager, ensure safe and professional operations, conduct sales in the retail outlet, and oversee dive related activities.
General Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Dive Center Manager and support daily center operations.
- Assist RSG Dive Operations in developing other dive centers.
- Educate visiting divers about local marine life.
- Lead private marine biology dives and general dive excursions.
- Teach courses to PADI standards and all above PADI standards.
- Work with Sustainability and RSZA departments to align with environmental priorities.
- Work remotely and visit the office as required.
Establishment of Dive Center: Pre Opening
- Collaborate with the Dive Center Manager to develop the dive center and its components.
- Support all RSG departments during delivery to ensure targets are achieved and projects are delivered as designed.
- Become familiar with dive sites and marine life within reach of the asset.
Establishment of Dive Center: Post Opening
- Manage teaching and diving standards with safety as the top priority.
- Ensure all activities are conducted professionally and safely.
- Keep accurate records of teaching activities.
- Assist with sales in the retail outlet.
- Conduct presentations about marine life for guests and colleagues.
- Build effective relationships with managers, coworkers, and the public.
Policies, Systems, Processes, Procedures, Standards and Reports
- Adopt and follow all relevant policies, processes, SOPs, and instructions to ensure controlled and consistent operation of the dive center.

- Apply safety, quality, and environmental management policies to ensure employee and public safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality services, and a responsible environmental attitude.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices, focusing on best practice, cost reduction, and productivity improvement.
Job Requirements Qualification and Experience
- Marine Biology/Conservation Degree.
- PADI Instructor with a proven track record in multiple geographic locations.
- Active and renewed PADI Instructor license.
- PADI Instructor rating in at least five specialties.
- Logged at least 500 dives.
- Certified at least 50 students across all core courses.
- Diploma in Marine Biology or equivalent.
- Background in dive business and hospitality.
- Marine conservation experience.
- Health & safety experience in diving.
- Experience with equipment management and dive retail.
- Fit to dive medical clearance.

- Marine life identification - fish, invertebrates, reptiles, animals.
- Workshop technician for various equipment brands.
