Minimum Qualifications

Mechanical Inspector shall meet at least one of the following qualifications: (aa) Possess a current license as a Master General Mechanical, or Air Conditioning Contractor (Limited or Unlimited), or Certified Journeyman General Mechanical issued by the Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board and have at least five years of field experience; or (bb) Possess a current license as a State Certified Mechanical Contractor, or a Class A or B Air Conditioning Contractor issued by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board and have at least five years of field experience; or (cc) Possess a current Florida Professional Engineer license having obtained the license pursuant to examination in the mechanical discipline and have four years of experience; or (dd) Possess a current Florida Professional Engineer license and have five years of experience under that license; or (ee) Possess a current Broward County Master Mechanical license, have five years of field experience, and have applied for and received a Master General Mechanical Contractor license reciprocity with Miami-Dade County.

Recruitment Notes


This position involves technical work in inspecting mechanical systems and installations for compliance with the Florida Building Code. Incumbents in this class are responsible for making technical field inspections of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and automatic fire suppression systems in residential, commercial, and industrial establishments under active building permits.

Responsibilities include inspecting and testing mechanical installations in progress and upon completion; advising contractors on changes required to ensure code compliance; engaging in periodic surveillance of assigned areas to detect violations; and performing inspections of existing commercial businesses for Certificates of Use and Occupancy. Additional office duties include providing information to contractors and the public and assisting in resolving disagreements. Supervision is received from a technical supervisor who reviews work for adherence to established departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
