Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Middle Grades Social Studies Teacher to inspire and educate students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for history, geography, civics, and social sciences, with a commitment to fostering critical thinking and civic engagement among young learners. This role involves developing engaging curricula, implementing effective teaching strategies, and supporting student growth within a dynamic classroom environment. Candidates with experience in curriculum development, classroom management, and integrating learning technology are highly preferred. Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver comprehensive social studies lessons aligned with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Develop engaging instructional materials utilizing instructional design principles and incorporating various learning technologies.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing preparation.
  • Provide individualized support through tutoring, mentoring, and academic advising to meet diverse student needs.
  • Incorporate creative writing, journalism, and research activities to enhance literacy education and critical thinking skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, lesson planning, and school-wide initiatives such as literacy programs and special education services.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to higher education teaching methods, Montessori approaches (if applicable), or other specialized instructional techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress effectively with parents and administration.
  • Participate in school events, faculty meetings, and community outreach efforts to promote a collaborative educational environment.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of social studies content including history, geography, civics, and related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in curriculum development, instructional design, and lesson planning tailored for middle school students.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective classroom instruction, student engagement, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Skilled in classroom management techniques that foster a respectful and productive learning atmosphere.
  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and needs; familiarity with special education or behavior management strategies is advantageous.
  • Ability to utilize learning technology tools effectively to enhance instruction and student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, proofreading, copy editing, and creative writing techniques is beneficial for integrated literacy activities.
  • Organizational skills necessary for managing multiple classes, assessments, and extracurricular activities.
  • Experience with standardized testing preparation and educational research methodologies.
  • Mentoring abilities to support new teachers or peer educators within the school community. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $59,425.42 - $71,566.10 per year
