Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher — Reading & Writing (Part-Time, Anaheim)

Schedule: 3–6 hrs/week- Must be available on weekday afternoons

Position Overview

Golden Sunshine Academy Yorba Linda seeks a passionate, experienced English Language Arts (ELA) teacher to design and teach small-group Reading & Writing classes for upper elementary and middle school students. You’ll build a practical, standards-aligned syllabus and deliver engaging after-school lessons that strengthen reading, writing, and speaking skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach: Lead interactive small-group classes on-site (3–6 hrs/week).
• Plan: Create a semester syllabus, lesson plans, and materials.
• Differentiate: Support mixed-ability learners and maintain strong classroom management.
• Assess: Provide clear, actionable feedback and track progress.
• Partner: Communicate updates to families and staff.

Core Skills You’ll Build in Students (academically framed)

• Close Reading & Textual Analysis (theme, structure, evidence, author’s craft)
• Composition: Narrative, Expository/Informational, and Argumentative writing
• Research & Conventions: Source use, citation basics (e.g., MLA), revision & editing
• Language: Vocabulary development, grammar-in-context, sentence combining
• Speaking & Presentation: Organization, delivery, and visual support

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in English, Education, Journalism, or related field (required)
• 1+ year English/ ELA teaching/tutoring experience (grades 6-8 - middle school)
• Lesson-planning & materials-creation experience
• Strong classroom management & communication
• Available to teach in person in Anaheim

Preferred: CA teaching credential; middle school ELA experience; PBL; experience with diverse learners (e.g., ELD/ELL, GATE).
