Overview
Gold Auto Parts Recyclers (GAPR) is a growing leader in automotive scrap recycling and industrial material recovery. We work directly with auto shops, dealerships, body shops, and dismantlers to collect and process a wide range of automotive scrap and components. We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Mobile Scrap Metal Buyer to purchase and pick up materials using a company truck and trailer.
Position Summary
The Mobile Scrap Metal Buyer is responsible for traveling to supplier locations, inspecting materials, negotiating purchases, and hauling scrap metal and automotive parts back to the yard. This is an active, independent buyer role ideal for someone who enjoys being on the road, working with customers, and handling materials directly.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel daily to supplier sites using a company truck and trailer.
- Inspect, identify, and purchase automotive scrap metal, engines, transmissions, aluminum, copper, catalytic converters, and other vehicle components.
- Load purchased materials safely using dollies, chains, straps, lifts, and manual labor as needed.
- Weigh materials using portable scales and document grades and quantities accurately.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to secure repeat business.
- Monitor commodity prices and make competitive, profitable buying decisions.
- Negotiate pricing with customers while maintaining company profit margins.
- Ensure safe and compliant loading, transport, and unloading of materials.
- Communicate regularly with dispatch/yard staff regarding incoming loads.
- Maintain detailed purchase logs, receipts, and customer notes.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL not required but a plus).
- Experience pulling and backing up trailers (bumper pull or gooseneck).
- 1–3 years of experience in scrap metal, automotive recycling, towing, or material hauling.
- Ability to identify ferrous and non-ferrous metals and automotive components.
- Strong negotiation and customer service skills.
- Comfortable with physical work: lifting up to 50 lbs, loading scrap, chaining, strapping, etc.
- Ability to work independently and manage daily routes efficiently.
- Strong reliability, professionalism, and time management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience buying scrap or catalytic converters.
- Mechanical or automotive background.
- Existing relationships with auto shops or dismantlers.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
