Job Summary
The Maintenance Skills Trainer will assist Maintenance Leadership in a broad range of maintenance functions, including training employees and maintaining documentation, performing compliance audits and promoting the health and safety practices and procedures.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values.
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Assist the Maintenance leadership in a broad range of maintenance functions.
  • Provide training and support to the maintenance departments.
  • Ensure incoming new hires have the required trainings needed.
  • Conduct safety and skills trainings in a classroom or shop setting.
  • Ability to work safely and promote the safe behavior in others.
  • Work safely and promote safe behavior in others, including advocating the Super SLAM/Safety interaction program.
  • Promote sustainability in safety and training implementations.
  • Attend start up meetings and share required information.
  • Perform compliance audits on equipment, shops, jobs etc. providing education and findings to other employees.
  • Work effectively with employees and representatives from outside agencies including MSHA and the State Mine Inspector as needed.
  • Objectively evaluate procedures, incidents, investigations and the ability to recognize and correct health and safety hazards.
  • Promote health and safety practices and procedures while training other employees.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Company.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have maintenance experience and able to train others in a safe efficient manner.
    • Must be a current A technician or have 3 years maintenance training experience.
    • Preference will be given to employees with welding and mechanic experience.
  • Must have strong communication skills both written and verbal, to include public presentation skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and able to work effectively in adverse timeframes and conditions.
  • Must be able to interface with all levels of employees within Peabody and representatives from outside agencies (including vendors, federal and state enforcement agencies).
  • Must be able and willing to work hours that fall outside a normal work schedule as needed. (Nights, weekends etc.).
  • Must possess or able to obtain the MSHA IS trainer certification within 6 months.
  • Must possess or able to obtain the Wyoming Mine Foreman certification within 1 year.
  • Must possess or able to obtain the MSHA dust sampling certification.
  • Must have knowledge of the 30 CFR – Parts 48 and other applicable MSHA, NFPA, NEC regulations and standards.
  • A strong commitment to safety and health of the mine and its employees.
  • Must assume responsibility and ownership of all regulations, Peabody standards and like initiatives.
  • Perform administrative duties when required and within required timeframes.
Physical Requirements
SURFACE ENVIRONMENT
  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
