Clinical Care
- Act as a safe and competent practitioner providing high standards of neonatal nursing care.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care for neonates.
- Administer prescribed medications, fluids, and feeds (enteral and parenteral).
- Operate and monitor incubators, warmers, ventilators, phototherapy, and infusion devices.
- Assist neonatologists in procedures such as intubation, umbilical line insertion, and resuscitation.
- Maintain thermoregulation and ensure comfort and safety of neonates.
- Observe and promptly report any signs of distress, sepsis, or complications.
- Adhere to strict aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other departments for smooth functioning of neonatal care.
- Communicate effectively with parents, providing health education, updates, and emotional support.
- Liaise with laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology departments for timely investigations and results.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Documentation & Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date nursing records including vitals, feeding charts, medications, and interventions.
- Document all observations, procedures, and significant changes in the neonate’s condition.
- Ensure proper handover at shift changes to maintain continuity and safety of care.
- Raise requisitions for consumables, medications, and neonatal equipment as required.
Safety & Quality
- Ensure the safety and well-being of neonates, staff, and visitors within the unit.
- Follow hospital infection control, biomedical waste management, and patient safety protocols.
- Check and maintain neonatal equipment for readiness and functionality.
- Participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency management.
- Report and document any incidents, adverse events, or equipment malfunctions.
Education & Teamwork
- Teach, guide, and support junior nurses and nursing students in neonatal care practices.
- Participate in continuing education, workshops, and neonatal resuscitation training (NRP, PALS, etc.).
- Engage in quality improvement activities, audits, and team discussions to enhance neonatal outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to promote safe and effective neonatal care.
