The Outbreak Coordinator oversees cross-cutting reporting and data quality related to infectious disease outbreaks statewide, ensuring internal data management meeting state, district, and CDC requirements. This position also is responsible for enteric disease surveillance and outbreak investigations, supporting public health district epidemiology staff, working with internal and external partners on enteric disease surveillance, prevention, and investigation. The position also collaborates with Georgia Public Health Laboratory (GPHL) colleagues and others on use of whole genome sequencing in outbreak detection and investigation. In partnership with colleagues, the Outbreak Coordinator may present investigations and findings in local, state, and national meetings and conferences.
Coordinates data management for all Georgia outbreaks in the SendSS module termed PHIRE
Ensures utilization of CDC systems such as SEDRIC and NORS for outbreak detection and reporting
Assists in enteric disease case ascertainment, data collection, and data cleaning
Participate in training and data integration activities regarding whole genome sequencing data.
Prepare written reports and presentations that communicate necessary information to staff, the public, and partners.
Identify surveillance needs; assist with design, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of public health surveillance systems.
Performs various duties in support of DPH Food and Waterborne team and ADES section operations.
Contributes to CDC cooperative agreement proposals and monitoring activities.
Serves as subject matter expert for one or more food or waterborne reportable conditions.
Work closely with district and county health jurisdictions; and maintain knowledge of epidemiologic methods and of current developments in the area of acute disease epidemiology.
Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field;
OR
Two (2) years of experience at the lower-level Epidemiologist 1 (HCP180) or position equivalent.
