Emmanuel, Sheppard & Condon is seeking a part-time legal Assistant to assist multiple attorneys in our Miramar Beach office location on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The legal assistant will assist in preparation of legal documents and correspondence, as well as performance of general secretarial duties including filing, scanning, time keeping, scheduling and answering phones.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The individual must have strong typing skills and the ability to operate general office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, printers, fax and postage machines. Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures. Experience with case management software preferred. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications. Must have excellent written and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Adaptability and ability to meet deadlines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics.
  • Prepare and submit e-filings/hard copy filings with local, state and federal courts.
  • Track case deadlines to ensure timeliness of scheduling, responses and filings.
  • Monitor case files to ensure timeliness and organization.
  • Screen client calls and gathering client intake information.
  • Client contact/client relations.
  • Draft, prepare, edit and proofread correspondence.
  • Draft, prepare, edit and proofread legal documents, under attorney supervision.
  • Time entry.
  • Maintain attorney calendars, including but not limited to scheduling depositions, hearings, mediations and client meetings.
  • Perform conflict checks.
  • Assist with client billing in coordination with firm’s accounting department.
  • Mailing, faxing or arranging timely delivery of legal correspondence to clients, witnesses and court officials.
  • Set up new files and close files upon completion.
  • Filing/scanning/importing.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 25.0 per week
