Position Description




Payroll & Benefits Specialist will represent Human Resources in various capacities by communicating information, monitoring, and processing paperwork for District Clerk employees, such as W-4 changes, name changes and verification of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Process payroll for all full-time employees while verifying that all payroll reports are accurate.
  • Process all benefit updates and new hires insurance for all full-time employees.
  • Interacts with all levels of management and employees regarding payroll, benefit inquiries and other Organizational updates.
  • Assists with Job Fairs and with the High School Internship Program.

Requirements

Qualifying applicants must complete the Harris County District Clerk Skills Test (linked below) with a minimum score of 80%.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Four (4) years of related experience in a Human Resources environment
  • Must possess knowledge of STARS (PeopleSoft)
  • Must possess at least two (2) years of Payroll experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have excellent presentation, analytical, decision-making, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Must be capable of working under stress and managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Assists with employee and retiree inquiries regarding all aspects of benefits, retirement, and wellness.
  • Must be able to work overtime without prior notice and work flexible hours as required
  • Must be able to maneuver, including lifting and moving a minimum of thirty (30) pounds
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently and make sound decisions while meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Must have knowledge and be able to interpret the laws, regulations and policies that govern Human Resources issues
  • Must be eligible for employment in the United States
  • Testing will be required

General Information

  • Regular Full-time
  • Monday - Friday | 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
Salary:
  • $28.00 - $32.00 Hourly
  • Based on 26 Pay Periods
    • Plus, benefits

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
