Position Summary:

To be fully engaged in providing No Harm/ Quality, Customer Experience, and Financial Stewardship, the Pharmacy Supervisor, Residency Coordinator is responsible for leading the pharmacy residency programs to provide optimal pharmaceutical and clinical services on a daily basis. The Pharmacy Supervisor, Residency Coordinator facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, cost-effective drug therapies.


Primary Accountabilities:


Engagement:

  • Works diligently to increasingly engage, provide tools of engagement, and raise issues of engagement with direct reports.
  • Maintains strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and is comfortable presenting in a classroom setting.
  • Coordinates residency recruitment, evaluation, interviews and ranking through the National Matching Service.
  • Maintains residency training schedules, orientation, on-boarding and competencies.
  • Creates and maintains a structure, in collaboration with preceptors that facilitates Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) and Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) program compliance with American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Residency Accreditation Standards.
  • Participates in ASHP approved programs and meetings to assist preceptor development and recruitment.
  • Reviews Resident progress on a quarterly basis, providing written development plan and any other documentation as required by ASHP standards.


Quality/No Harm:

  • Assists with developing education to prepare pharmacy staff to be safe and competent.
  • Collaborates with nursing and allied health educators to provide multi-disciplinary education and tools within the organization on topics related to safe medication use and new medication therapies practices.
  • Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions, and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • Maintains current pharmacist licensure.
  • Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department. Collects and analyzes data and maintains documentation of all clinical activities.
  • Secures and maintains ASHP accreditation for all pharmacy residency programs.
  • Assists the development and implementation of preceptor development opportunities.
  • Coordinates the communication of new/revised residency-related policies, regulations, and performance improvements to pharmacy staff and other departments affected as needed.
  • Ensures Resident is meeting ASHP required standards.
  • Facilitates communication between Resident and preceptors/administrators when necessary.
  • Manages Resident attendance at pharmacy staff meetings and presentation of materials as needed/requested


Stewardship:

  • Reads and evaluates the medical literature for studies supporting the pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomic programs.
  • Prepares reports on pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomic activities including financial impact, as directed.
  • Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements (see attached competence assessment/skills list).
  • Maintains patient and department/hospital confidentiality
  • Maintains records and participates in audits for Graduate Medical Education (GME) funding, including preceptor and Resident time reporting, accreditation letter, program completion certificates, program curriculum, Resident schedules and onboarding agreement letters.


Customer Experience:

  • Maintains the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical pharmacy services.
  • Provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff.
  • Provides training and education to pharmacists regarding pharmaceutical care and pharmaco-economics.
  • Supervises and instructs pharmacy Residents and pharmacy students.
  • Participates in community educational programs (e.g., diabetes classes, health fairs).
  • Contributes to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national meetings.
  • Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with staff members and within the community.
  • Attends management meetings and reads pertinent email communications.
  • Sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.


Qualifications Required:

  • Graduate from accredited college of pharmacy. Must possess a Pharm.D. degree
  • Graduate from ASHP accredited PGY1 residency program required or 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • License to practice in the state of Florida by Board of Pharmacy
  • Consultant pharmacist license is preferred but not required
  • Hours may be long and irregular; includes evening, weekends, and holidays as necessary


Physical Demands:

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers. Good hand and wrist dexterity to enable typing and/or computer work for 8-10 hours/day.
  • Good eyesight to read labels/prescriptions, graduated containers of fluids, to count tabs, capsules.
  • Good hearing to understand phone instructions/orders, customers and those in which the position depends.
  • Ability to work in noisy distracting atmosphere, to handle frequent interruptions, to adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Handle large volumes of work for long periods of time.
  • Walk, bend, stoop, twist, sit, stand for long periods of time, 8-10 hours a day.
  • May require lifting and carrying light loads (Up to 40 lbs.)


Mental Demands:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Patience, positive attitude, cooperation, works well with others, friendly, problem solving skills, analytical skills, attention to detail - thoroughness.
  • Attention to accuracy, organized, good communications skills (orally and in writing), ability to handle and work well under stress.
  • Good listening skills, good social skills, perform multiple tasks at one time, and are able to make quick accurate decisions.
  • Ability to evaluate medical literature.
