Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced PLC SCADA Automation Engineer/ Lead for the Water Automation sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, automation solutions, and data integration tools specific to water treatment, distribution, and wastewater management systems.

In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, system integrators, and field operators, to ensure that SCADA systems and automation architectures are reliable, scalable, and optimized for real-time monitoring and control of water facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • SCADA System Design & Architecture:
  • Design, implement, and optimize SCADA systems tailored for water automation (water treatment plants, distribution networks, sewage, etc.).
  • Define and document the SCADA system architecture, communication protocols, and data integration strategies.
  • Architect scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant SCADA systems.
  • Develop and manage integration strategies between SCADA and other systems (DCS, PLC, HMI, Historian, etc.).
  • Automation & Control Solutions:
  • Design and implement automation solutions for real-time control of water processes (pumps, valves, sensors, etc.).
  • Develop logic for control systems, ensuring they align with process requirements.
  • Configure and manage PLCs, RTUs, and other field equipment to work in harmony with SCADA systems.
  • Software Development & Scripting:
  • Write and maintain software and scripts for data processing, visualization, and control.
  • Develop software modules for data collection, reporting, and decision-making using SCADA, OPC, and other communication protocols.
  • Data Visualization & Reporting:
  • Design and implement user interfaces (HMI/GUI) for real-time monitoring and historical data analysis.
  • Develop customized reports and dashboards for management and field operators to provide actionable insights on water operations.
  • Cybersecurity & System Integrity:
  • Ensure that SCADA and automation systems are secure and protected against cyber threats.
  • Implement best practices for system hardening, access controls, and data integrity in accordance with industry standards (e.g., NIST, ISA/IEC 62443).
  • Project Management & Documentation:
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
  • Provide clear documentation for system architecture, design specifications, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting during project lifecycle.
  • Collaboration & Support:
  • Work closely with field engineers, project managers, and clients to understand water facility requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operational teams and maintenance personnel.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis to resolve SCADA system issues efficiently.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Experience:
  • Proven experience in SCADA systems development and integration, particularly within water automation and utility sectors.
  • 5+ years of experience in SCADA system architecture, PLC/RTU programming, and automation control.
  • Experience with industry standards and protocols (Modbus, OPC, DNP3, BACnet, etc.).
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in SCADA software (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, Siemens WinCC, or similar platforms).
  • Proficient in programming languages for automation (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Python, JavaScript, SQL).
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols and network configurations (Ethernet, VPN, wireless, etc.).
  • Experience with PLCs, RTUs, and field devices commonly used in water systems (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, Allen Bradley).
  • Familiarity with water-related automation technologies (e.g., SCADA for water treatment plants, pump stations, and wastewater treatment).
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to identify and address performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the SCADA system.
  • Additional Skills (Desirable):
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geographic Information System Mapping.
  • Experience with cloud-based SCADA or IoT-based solutions.
  • Experience with system integration in energy management or environmental management systems.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of water distribution and treatment processes, wastewater management, and related automation needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight project deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with a team-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Adaptability to learn new tools, technologies, and methodologies in water automation and control systems.
