We are seeking a highly analytical Cost Manager with deep experience in construction cost control and a strong command of Power BI. This role blends traditional cost management duties with advanced data visualization, dashboard development, and analytics. You will transform raw project data into clear, actionable insights that drive financial accuracy, risk mitigation, and strategic decision-making across active construction projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Power BI & Data Analytics (Core Focus)
Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards that visualize project budgets, forecasts, commitments, accruals, change orders, trends, and risk exposure.
Integrate data from multiple sources (Excel, ERP systems, project controls software, contractor data, financial systems) into clean, reliable Power BI models.
Automate recurring reports and manual workflows using Power BI to streamline cost reporting and reduce admin time.
Develop DAX measures, calculated columns, and data transformations to support forecasting, performance tracking, and scenario modeling.
Present data insights to project managers, executives, and stakeholders, translating complex data into clear recommendations.
Maintain data governance, version control, and data quality standards for all Power BI-based reporting.
Construction Cost Management
Prepare and manage detailed project budgets, cost plans, and forecasts throughout design and construction.
Evaluate change orders, validate pricing, assess cost impacts, and support negotiations.
Track actual costs vs. budget; analyze variances and proactively flag potential overruns or risks.
Manage cost logs, including commitments, POs, change orders, contingencies, and allowances.
Produce monthly cost reports summarizing performance, forecast-to-complete, cashflow, and trends.
Support procurement reviews and subcontractor bid evaluations; ensure pricing accuracy and alignment with scope.
Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, finance teams, and contractors to ensure full visibility into cost status.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or related field.
5+ years experience in construction cost management, project controls, or similar discipline.
Advanced Power BI proficiency:
Able to build end-to-end dashboards from data ingestion to modeling to visualization.
Strong DAX, Power Query, data modeling, and data transformation skills.
Experience integrating financial and project-control data sets.
Strong skills in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, macros preferred).
Solid understanding of construction cost structures, estimating processes, contract language, and change-order workflows.
Ability to explain complex data or cost issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with ERP or project controls tools (Procore, SAP, Oracle, PMWeb, Unifier, etc.) is a plus.

The salary range for this full-time role is $84,400.00-$112,533.35 per year. Ranges are determined based on the position, geography, client and industry experience and level, and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range reflects base salary only, and not the total compensation package. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, including client requirements.
