PRINCIPAL AI ENGINEER

About us:

We are an AI-driven workforce optimization platform helping hospitals reduce labor costs and make better staffing decisions. Our AI system interprets KPIs, identifies root causes, predicts staffing needs, and guides hospital leaders with clear, data-driven recommendations.

We currently have deployments across 16 hospitals with strong traction and ongoing discussions with 100+ more. With early models built for demand forecasting, staffing logic, agentic reasoning, and healthcare data pipelines, we are now moving toward building our full alpha product.

Role Overview

We are hiring a Principal AI Engineer to lead architecture, development, and technical strategy for our AI-powered healthcare operations platform.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role where you will work directly with the co-founders and shape the platform from the ground up.

This position offers a clear path toward a future CTO or VP Engineering role.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Strategy & Architecture

Own system architecture, technical roadmap, and engineering direction

Convert business & data requirements into scalable technical plans

Architect data pipelines, AI agents, integrations, and core services

Hands-On Engineering

Build backend services, APIs, microservices, and internal tools

Develop LLM-based agents, RAG pipelines, vector stores, and reasoning workflows

Optimize data workflows, automation, and system performance

Team Leadership

Mentor and guide engineers as the team grows

Set coding standards, review processes, and best practices

Lead sprint planning, architecture sessions, and milestone execution

Data Engineering & Integrations

Build and manage ingestion workflows (APIs, SFTP, FHIR/HL7, CSV/Excel)

Design scalable SQL models and transformation layers

Integrate with EHRs, WFM systems, and hospital operational tools

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with co-founders, product teams, and healthcare SMEs

Convert hospital workflows (staffing, scheduling, demand forecasting) into engineering logic

Join product discussions, customer calls, and early deployments

Required Skills & Experience

7+ years in software engineering (backend, full-stack, or data)

Experience leading or managing engineers

Strong hands-on expertise in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, SQL

Deep experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred)

Proven experience building LLM features, RAG, agents, or similar AI systems

Prior architecture experience in startups or complex data environments

Strong ownership mentality and ability to operate independently

Preferred Skills

Experience with healthcare data, EHRs, and hospital systems

Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, secure healthcare APIs

Experience with agent frameworks, orchestration tools, vector DBs

Prior early-stage or founding engineer experience

Exposure to HIPAA, SOC 2, or secure data environments
