Specific to an electrical contractor
- Specialized sourcing: Specialize in sourcing electrical components like wiring, conduits, circuit breakers, Panel Board and other materials from reliable manufacturers and distributors.
- Technical collaboration: Work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure the technical specifications of materials and equipment are correctly specified and sourced.
- Logistics coordination: Coordinate the timely delivery of electrical materials to multiple, potentially dispersed, construction sites to prevent project delays.
- Compliance with codes: Ensure all sourced materials comply with local electrical codes and safety regulations.
Core responsibilities
- Strategic planning: Develop and implement a procurement strategy that aligns with the company's business and project requirements.
- Supplier management: Identify, evaluate, and select qualified electrical component and material suppliers. Maintain strong, long-term relationships with vendors.
- Negotiation: Negotiate prices, terms, and service level agreements (SLAs) for materials, equipment, and services to secure the best value for money.
- Budgeting and cost control: Manage the procurement budget, analyze spending, and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
- Contract management: Oversee the creation, execution, and monitoring of contracts with suppliers, ensuring they are legally sound and beneficial.
- Quality and compliance: Ensure all procured materials and equipment meet project specifications, industry standards, and company quality policies. This includes ensuring compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
- Risk management: Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, such as supply disruptions or supplier insolvency, and develop contingency plans.
- Inventory and logistics: Work with teams to manage inventory levels, ensuring the right materials are available at the right time and coordinating timely delivery to job sites.
- Collaboration: Liaise with other departments, such as project management, engineering, and operations, to align procurement activities with project timelines and technical requirements.
- Performance monitoring: Track and report on key metrics like supplier performance, cost savings, and contract compliance to senior management.
