Bax Engineering is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Manager to join our Commercial Design Department. This role is ideal for an experienced civil designer or engineer who enjoys leading projects, guiding younger staff, and working directly with clients and municipal officials. The Project Manager will oversee the full lifecycle of commercial site development projects and play a key role in shaping the future of our growing Commercial Design team.
About the Role
The Project Manager will manage the design and delivery of commercial civil construction plans including site layout, grading, stormwater systems, utilities, and parking design. This individual will coordinate with internal teams, guide younger designers and engineers, and ensure high quality service for our clients. The role involves attending and presenting at Planning and Zoning Commission meetings, Board of Aldermen meetings, and other public hearings as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Management and Delivery
- Manage commercial civil engineering projects from concept through approval and construction.
- Prepare or oversee preparation of site plans, grading plans, utility plans, stormwater reports, and construction documents.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, engineering standards, and client requirements.
- Coordinate schedules, budgets, and deliverables for multiple active projects.
- Communicate proactively with clients, municipal staff, contractors, and internal teams.
Leadership and Mentoring
- Provide guidance, oversight, and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
- Support skill development, quality improvement, and problem solving within the team.
- Assign tasks, review work, and ensure adherence to Bax Engineering standards.
Client and Public Engagement
- Represent Bax Engineering at public meetings including Planning and Zoning Commission and Board meetings.
- Present project designs clearly and confidently to elected officials and community stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing commercial civil site plans and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater design, utilities, and site layout.
- Experience working with planning, zoning, and permitting processes.
- Experience coordinating with municipalities and presenting at public meetings.
- Ability to supervise and mentor junior engineers and designers.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software.
- Strong communication, organization, and client service skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with St. Charles County and surrounding municipal review processes.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
