Position Overview

Sansin America is seeking an R&D Chemist with a passion for wood to join our team. As part of a dynamic and growing team you will work to develop and optimise wood coatings and treatments for a wide variety of applications. The ideal candidate will be a keen problem solver providing support to R&D, QC/Production, and customers.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

Product Development – Develop, build out, and improve product lines of the company utilizing expertise & experience to evaluate experimental formulations and create competitive coatings to meet industry demands. Conduct liquid and physical tests evaluating coating chemistry and physical performance using established ASTM and EU methods.

Project Management – Plan , develop, and execute scientifically sound experiments, procedures and tests that align with and support company goals. Work collaboratively in a team, applying critical thinking and expert analysis and present findings at meetings; assuming responsibility for project documentation including reports.

Technical Expertise – Participate in troubleshooting application and client challenges and prepare remedies and resolutions. Work with QC and Production to resolve issues ensuring the highest standard of product is delivered.

Intellectual Property – Participate in intellectual property creation and maintain confidentiality

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience at designing, executing and analyzing experimental studies to characterize formulation impact on product performance
  • Understanding the practical aspects of laboratory & equipment safety – familiar with proper PPE, safety protocols, etc
  • Ability to keep all trade secrets, patents, and proprietary information in the strictest confidence
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Wood coatings science and mycology experience considered an asset, but not required

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of formulation/application experience in the paints & coatings industry. Water-based formulating preferred.
  • Master's or bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
