http://www.talentformula.co) is a consulting firm that offers outsourced financial and accounting Human Resources to Chartered Accounting firms worldwide. We have been asked to source staff on behalf of Red Fish Accounts. We currently have a Senior Bookkeeper position available in the team.
Red Fish Accounts is looking for a 4+ years of experience, detail-driven, organized Bookkeeper to support a portfolio of clients across a range of industries. Who will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing day-to-day transactions, and ensuring clients receive a seamless, proactive service. This role is for someone who loves structure, enjoys problem-solving, and takes real pride in tidy ledgers and reconciled accounts.
You’ll work closely with wider finance and payroll teams, but you’ll also need to be confident operating independently and managing your own workload across multiple clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Day-to-Day Transaction Processing
- Monitor client inboxes and manage incoming financial documents, invoices, receipts, and queries.
- Process purchase invoices, match to supporting documents, code accurately, and file electronically.
- Prepare, process, and send sales invoices to clients’ customers, ensuring all revenue is captured correctly.
- Maintain and update accounting records within Xero/QBO, ensuring real-time accuracy and completeness.
Banking & Reconciliations
- Monitor bank feeds and transactions, identify missing paperwork, and resolve discrepancies.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, PayPal/Stripe/other payment platforms.
- Prepare weekly or monthly payment schedules for clients, ensuring suppliers are paid on time.
Expense Management
- Oversee Receipt Bank/Dext accounts and ensure documentation is processed promptly and correctly.
- Prepare and maintain expenses reports for clients, following internal procedures and HMRC guidelines.
Credit Control
- Run debtor reports and chase outstanding payments in line with each client’s tone and process.
- Flag persistent debt issues to managers and support clients with improving their credit control practices.
Payroll Processing & Admin
- Assist with preparing payroll data, checking timesheets, and ensuring all changes are captured accurately.
- Support payroll administration tasks such as pension uploads, new starter/leaver forms, and related compliance.
VAT, Compliance & Reporting
- Apply VAT rules correctly when processing transactions.
- Assist in preparing VAT returns, management accounts prep, and year-end audit support as required.
Client Communication
- Liaise with clients, their suppliers, and internal team members to resolve queries promptly.
- Provide exceptional service and clear communication, adapting style and detail to suit each client.
Key Skills & Attributes Technical Skills
- Strong working knowledge of VAT rules and how they apply in day-to-day bookkeeping.
- Understanding of payroll processes (full training available, but basic knowledge required).
- Ability to work across multiple windows and systems efficiently.
- Solid Excel and Google Sheets skills.
- Experience with Xero/QBO/Receipt Bank/Debt.
You should have
- Have at least 4+ years of bookkeeping or finance assistant experience in a public practice accounting firm or any big firm post articles.
- AAT(Association of Accounting Technicians) Level 2, Semi Qualified CA/ Relevant bachelor’s degree in commerce or equivalent experience ideal, but not essential.
- Excellent attention to detail — accuracy is non-negotiable.
- Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to juggle multiple clients.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, make sensible judgement calls, and spot when something looks “off.”
- Self-discipline: able to manage your own workflow and keep to internal deadlines.
- Flexible and adaptable — comfortable switching between clients and tasks throughout the day.
- Clear communicator who can explain financial issues simply and professionally.
