At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical is located within state-of-the-art research facilities on a 222-acre campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Associate 2 or 3 in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Core.
Bioinformatician position in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Core (BCBC) engages with investigators both internally and externally to statistical, bioinformatics and computational systems biology methodologies to high-dimensional complex datasets to understand the genetic and genomic architecture underlying diverse disorders.
This position requires a high level of research dedication and skill by a quick learner who can make productive contributions to the exciting field of high-dimensional data science.
Major Responsibilities
computational biology methodologies on traditional transcriptomics, next generation sequencing (including single-cell sequencing), and genome-wide association studies to add significant value to several signature research programs at Pennington.
Exploration and application of innovative, cutting-edge data analytic tools and approaches to enhance the research capabilities of multiple investigators in a highly collaborative framework.
Responsible for basic management tasks related to BCBC, including maintenance of updated lab safety records, ordering supplies related to data analysis, and overseeing laboratory management in general.
Expected to make oral presentations at lab meetings and when interacting with collaborators, and to participate in the writing of grants and manuscripts.
Please note that this is NOT a PhD or Postdoctoral Fellowship position.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or Computer Science.
Independent thinker with excellent communication skills.
Familiar with handling and manipulation of large, multidimensional data sets and fluent in the use of the R statistical analysis software.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or Computer Science.
At least two (2) years of experience with analyzing next generation sequencing data (RNAseq, Chipseq, single cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics etc.) is also highly recommended for this position.
Experience with one or more additional applications (e.g. Perl, SAS, Matlab, Python) is highly desirable.

The approved hiring range for the position is $45,000 - $60,000. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.
