Position Highlights

The Clinical and Translational Sciences Initiative (CTSI) is seeking a Full-time Research Technician II. CTSI developed and will house the CTSI Biospecimen Medical Biorepository. The Research Technician will assist with sample receiving/registering, sample processing, cataloging and storage, and maintaining high level of quality and record keeping.

Duties & Responsibilities

Sample Processing Laboratory:

  • Receive and register samples delivered/dropped off for processing.
  • Processing samples following established protocols.
  • Assure proper record keeping and logs of sample processing, sample amounts, and any anomalies or issues with the samples.
  • Utilizing various instruments to process samples for long-term storage such as: centrifuge, pipettes, biological hoods/cabinets, etc.

Sample Cataloging and Tracking:

  • Assure proper record keeping of all samples in redcap and open specimen including, logging all specimens, amounts, concentrations, etc. into redcap sample logs and sample management system, open specimen.
  • Assure all records are up to date with chain of custody for samples as soon as they are received/accepted into the CTSI Biobank lab.

Inventory/Supplies:

  • Keep track of all laboratory supplies, notifying regulatory administrator and leadership on supplies needs and qualities for supply ordering.
  • Monitor nitrogen tanks and dewars, refilling dewars with liquid nitrogen and informing leadership and regulatory administrator when new nitrogen tanks need to be ordered.

Quality Management and Sample Dissemination:

  • Assisting regulatory administrator with monthly quality control checks.
  • Work with regulatory administrator on all request for samples to assure proper samples are pulled and prepared for release and distribution.

Misc. Duties:

  • Provide recommendations on protocols and procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous lab work needed to keep the lab operational.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to keep detailed records of processes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a wet lab.
  • Prior experience operating scientific instruments/equipment such as pipettes, centrifuge, biological hoods/cabinets.
  • Prior experience with PBMC isolation.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
