The Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing risks associated with construction projects to ensure safe, cost-effective, and compliant project execution. The role involves developing risk management plans, evaluating project exposures, implementing mitigation strategies, and ensuring adherence to company and regulatory standards in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Risk Identification & Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all construction activities and project phases.
- Identify potential safety, financial, operational, environmental, and technical risks.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and work plans to detect risk exposures.
- Maintain a risk register and ensure it is updated regularly.
2. Risk Mitigation & Control
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and site supervisors to implement control measures.
- Monitor compliance with approved risk management procedures.
- Recommend preventive and corrective measures to reduce risk impact.
3. Monitoring & Reporting
- Perform regular site inspections and risk audits.
- Track risk indicators and escalate critical issues to senior management.
- Prepare risk assessment reports, dashboards, and monthly performance summaries.
- Ensure all major risks are communicated to stakeholders promptly.
4. Compliance & Governance
- Ensure adherence to Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), local regulations, and international best practices.
- Support HSE and QA/QC teams in maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to risk and safety management.
5. Coordination & Training
- Coordinate risk review meetings with project teams and subcontractors.
- Provide training, workshops, and awareness programs for risk prevention.
- Promote a strong risk management culture across the organization.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Risk Management, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience with 5 years similar work of experience in risk management within construction or infrastructure projects in Qatar or GCC.
- Strong knowledge of project risk assessment tools and methodologies (e.g., HIRA, JSA, FMEA).
- Familiarity with Qatar regulatory requirements (QCS, Ashghal, Civil Defense, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Professional certifications (optional but preferred):
- PMI-RMP, NEBOSH, ISO 31000 Risk Management, or equivalent.
