Rotating Mechanical Engineer
Project Type: Brownfield EPC PMC Petrochemical Plant Turnaround (TA) Furnaces
Location: Jubail, Saudi Arabia
Requirements / Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- 15+ years of experience working with rotating equipment in ethylene/petrochemical plants
- Prior Saudi Arabia project experience is a MUST
- Proven expertise in brownfield projects, furnace related auxiliary systems, and equipment modifications
- Strong hands on experience with compressors (CGC/centrifugal/reciprocating), steam/gas turbines, pumps (API 610), fans/blowers, gearboxes, and mechanical seals
- Familiarity with DCS/ESD systems interfaces and plant turnaround (TA) planning/execution
- Deep understanding of codes & standards: API 610/611/612/613/614/617/619/682, ASME, ISO, AGMA, NFPA (as applicable)
- Proficiency in rotor dynamics, vibration analysis (ISO 10816/20816), condition monitoring, alignment, and balancing
- Strong HSE mindset and permit to work knowledge for live plant interventions
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute rotating equipment scope for brownfield projects in operating ethylene/petrochemical plants, ensuring safe tie ins and minimal downtime
- Lead furnace related rotating equipment integration: combustion air fans/blowers, draft fans, lube oil systems, seal gas systems, and cooling water systems
- Execute equipment upgrades and modifications, including:
- CGC (Cracked Gas Compressor): anti surge control implementation, seal system upgrades, coupling/guarding, vibration/temperature monitoring, and performance testing
- Pumps: hydraulic re rating, API seal plan upgrades, material changes, bearing housing modifications, NPSH checks, and energy optimization (VFDs)
- Turbines/Drivers: overhaul scopes, governor/control upgrades, lube oil system compliance (API 614), alignment and baseplate improvements
- Columns & Utilities interfaces: cooling water/condensate/steam pumps, flare knock out drum blowers, and utility compressors
- Develop and approve engineering deliverables: datasheets, specifications, GA drawings, alignment plans, piping nozzle load checks, lube oil/seal system P&IDs, and TA job packs
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on chronic failures (seal leaks, bearing failures, vibration, cavitation), define corrective actions, and implement reliability improvements
- Lead turnaround (TA) activities: pre shutdown diagnostics, isolation/blinding, disassembly, inspection, part replacement, reassembly, cold/hot alignment, run in and performance testing, reinstatement
- Coordinate condition monitoring: vibration route setup, online monitoring configuration, baseline creation, alarm limit setting, and trending; oversee field balancing where required
- Define systemization and testing boundaries; prepare commissioning plans, SAT/FAT, and turnover documentation
- Conduct site surveys, as builts, clash/constructability reviews; ensure safe SIMOPS and lifting/rigging plans for heavy rotors and casings
- Ensure compliance with Saudi regulations, company standards, and HSE protocols; facilitate risk assessments (HIRA/JSA) for live plant tasks
- Manage vendors and OEMs: technical queries, spare parts strategies, upgrades, and on site field service; verify QA/QC for installation and documentation
- Collaborate closely with Process Controls, Instrumentation, Electrical, Piping, and Civil to ensure proper interfaces (utilities, supports, nozzle loads, alignment tolerances)
