Position Summary:

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with ICAO, local Civil Aviation Authority regulations, and company policies. This role ensures continuous monitoring and improvement of safety performance and promotes a positive safety culture across all operational areas.

Safety Manager – Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with DCAA requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and operational procedures.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks related to UAS operations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and assessments of flight and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the Safety Risk Register and ensure effective tracking of hazards and mitigations.
  • Report safety issues, occurrences, and incidents to the CEO and relevant authorities as required.
  • Lead or coordinate investigations into safety incidents or near-misses and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Promote and foster a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Ensure safety training and awareness programs are developed and delivered to all personnel.
  • Review and analyze safety data, trends, and reports to identify areas for improvement.
  • Advise management on safety performance and regulatory changes affecting operations.
  • Participate in management and safety review meetings and provide regular safety performance reports to the CEO.
  • Ensure safety documentation and records are accurate, up-to-date, and readily available for DCAA inspection.
  • Coordinate with other post holders to integrate safety considerations into operational planning.
  • Possess the authority to halt or suspend any operation that presents an unacceptable safety risk.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum [5–10] years of experience in aviation safety, flight operations, maintenance, or ground operations.
  • Proven experience in managing or supporting an SMS within an aviation organization.
  • Experience with safety investigation techniques is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and MS Office Suite.
