The Dileep Laboratory at the Huffington Center on Aging, Baylor College of Medicine investigates the genomic and epigenomic drivers of brain aging and age-related neurological diseases such as Alzheimer&rsquo;s disease. A particular interest is in the role of DNA damage in neurological dysfunction, including drug and radiation-induced DNA damage in cancer treatment. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with training in the area of chromatin biology and/or neuroscience to investigate chromatin regulation in brain aging and neurological dysfunction. Experience with computational analysis of NGS sequencing data and/or experience with mouse models is a plus.</p></div></div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>

<div><p>A Post-Doctoral Fellow position is available in Dr. Chih-Chi Andrew Hu&rsquo;s laboratory with a research focus on Immune Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Drug Discovery. This position focuses on the study of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated stress signaling molecules and their roles in survival, metastasis and chemoresistance of cancer. A key component of this effort is the identification and development of small molecules and peptides targeting the ER stress response pathways for the treatment of cancer. We are especially interested in candidates who are in the final stage of their doctoral training and have a strong background in protein chemistry (molecular cloning and column chromatography) and in the development of new biochemical assays during doctoral training. The candidate is expected to:<br>

<ul><li>Apply clean-lab chemical preparation and thermal-ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) techniques to the measurement of stable and radiogenic isotope ratios across a wide variety of natural and experimental samples and
</li><li>Apply geochemical modelling techniques to the processing and interpretation of existing isotopic data.
</li><li>Lead in the development and submission of high-quality research manuscripts and develop competitive grant-writing skills through the submission of grant applications to Federal agencies.
</li><li>Engage in the scientific community through the presentation of research results at universities and national/ international conferences.
</li><li>Assist the PI in mentoring/training of graduate students and in the leadership and management of the TIMS lab and related facilities.</li></ul>

Research areas of interest include cancer prevention and control, cancer health disparities, physical activity promotion, community engaged research, and implementation science.

The position is at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Health Disparities Research Department (HDR) of the Division of Cancer Prevention &amp; Population Sciences in Houston, TX. Under the mentorship of Dr. Scherezade Mama, the fellow will engage in cutting-edge research aimed at understanding and addressing health disparities in cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship. The fellow will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary research team and will contribute to various aspects of the research process, including but not limited to study design, participant recruitment and retention, data collection and analysis, community engagement, and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations at national and international scientific meetings and local and regional community events.<br>
This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for the fellow to develop their own research agenda related to health disparities research and cancer prevention and control, with access to extensive resources and support from MD Anderson. The fellow will have the potential to leverage existing funding to apply for additional grants and supplements.<br>

Research Focus and Core Responsibilities
<br>
<ul><li>The basic and translational research focus of this laboratory includes epigenetic mechanisms involving histone deacetylases, methyltransferases and demethylases, heat shock proteins and their cancer and leukemia-relevant client proteins, as well as transfection and functional analyses of genes regulating cell death/survival of human cancer cells.</li><li>
Experience in culture of human leukemia and lymphoma cell lines, as well as animal studies involving NOD/SCID or nude mice and mouse imaging (xenogen and MRI), is highly desirable.<br>
Experience in molecular techniques involving plasmid DNA preparations and transfection, the analysis of gene expression including QPCR, microarrays, chromatin immunoprecipitation, evaluation of protein biochemistry with 2D gels, animal models, the yeast-two-hybrid system, confocal microscopy, and tissue culture are also preferred.</li><li>
Performs quality research in relation to current research projects, interprets results of experiments, and makes necessary changes in procedures when needed. Compiles data sheets.</li><li>
Organizes and performs routine procedures involving molecular biology and biochemistry of RNA processing. Requires experience in tissue culture, DNA &amp; RNA preparation, PCR, DNA cloning, protein synthesis, and electrophoresis.</li><li>
Requires knowledge of standard radiographic techniques. Dark room usage is essential, as is use and proper handling of radioisotopes.</li>
