Terms of Employment:

  • 12 month position
  • 8 hrs per day, Monday - Friday, 3:30pm-12:00am
  • Paid time off: sick days, personal days, and vacation days

POSITION SUMMARY: Assist the Director of Buildings and Grounds by supervising the night custodians to ensure their duties and responsibilities are performed properly to maintain a clean and safe learning environment for all staff, students, and visitors.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Twelve (12) Month

2. Eight (8) hours per day

3. May include nights, weekends, or holidays to support events and emergencies

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervise all night custodians in the completion of assigned work.

2. Works cooperatively with other department supervisors.

3. Knows and follows applicable labor agreements.

4. Protects the confidential nature of information concerning the building and grounds department and individuals involved in the department.

5. Able to assure the duties of the custodial staff as needed to support the needs of the department when an absence or vacancy occurs.

6. Assist the Director of Buildings and Grounds with orientations, training, motivating and evaluating custodial staff and makes recommendations in various personnel matters such as hiring, assignments, discipline and termination.

7. Develop effective team relationships within the department.

8. Stock custodial closets and provide supplies as needed to custodians.

9. Manage and maintain proper inventory and order supplies as needed.

10. Onboard and train new custodians.

11. Manage and maintain training records for all custodians on equipment and facilities.

12. Complete custodial duties as assigned.

13. Participate in weekly inspections with the Director of Building and Grounds.

14. Perform set-up and tear downs for special events and activities.

15. Perform outside clean-up as requested by the Director of Building and Grounds.

16. Remove snow or ice from sidewalks and doorways as requested by the Director of Building and Grounds.

17. Report building and equipment maintenance needs to the Director of Building and Grounds. 1

18. Unload material from trucks as needed; inspect items for damages; verify shipping list against goods delivered.

19. Assemble, install, and repair items with or without hand held tools.

20. Keep current with best practices and requirements as they relate to the job.

21. Perform such other job related duties and assume such other professional responsibilities as your supervisor may assign.

22. Represent Hononegah Community High School in a professional manner.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent

2. Valid Illinois Driver’s License

3. Minimum three (3) years experience as a custodian with management and/or supervision responsibilities in an educational or commercial setting

ANALYTICAL & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

1. Physically able to perform the duties independently and in an acceptable time frame.

2. Basic mathematical skills.

3. Basic computer skills such as how to use email, calendar and work order management system, and access employee management system.

4. Ability to read and write basic operating instructions, short correspondence and memos. 5. Ability to complete work independently.

6. Ability to choose or select chemicals properly and understand related safety procedures.

7. Ability to work well with people.

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective, appropriate working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

9. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with proper technique.

2. Ability to talk, hear, sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, balance, and walk for extended periods of time.

3. Ability to bend and twist at the neck and trunk to maneuver into awkward spaces to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks.

4. Ability to hear and see close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and perceive depth.
