Our Power Market Advisory practice are looking for an experienced Japanese Power Market Expert to join the team.

You will be working at the forefront of the energy sector alongside market specialists with deep industry knowledge where you will be able to deploy and then broaden your skill set and expertise.

Led by a Senior Management Team respected as Thought Leaders within the industry, we use deep analytical insight to help our clients to define their strategies, shape their asset portfolios, and sharpen their assessment of market opportunities.

What you will be doing Working closely with our team of experts in Singapore and Sydney, your key tasks will include:
  • Provide insight to our clients on the evolution of energy markets by combining your market expertise with market leading analytical tools. Developing scenario outlooks that enable investors, developers, lenders and policymakers to make informed decisions on capital deployment, contract structures and market design.
  • Apply fundamentals-based research towards developing and maintaining Baringa's Japan power market models, so as to produce robust modelling of electricity price projections and fuel mix forecasts.
  • Providing bespoke market advisory to clients, which can include transaction advisory (buy-side and sell-side), PPA structuring, market opportunity assessment, or evaluation of impending policy or rule changes.
  • Delivering regulatory advisory engagements, including advising regulators, IPPs or utilities on market structures, energy transition policies, etc.
Your skills and experience We're looking for talented, enthusiastic energy experts with a track record of taking ownership and delivering results in a challenging, client-facing environment. Specific experience areas sought include:
  • Energy experience of at least 4 years, with an in-depth understanding of the Japanese power market dynamics.
  • Quantitative skills/capability (ideally, power market modelling experience)
  • Experience in asset valuation, commercial due diligence and transaction advisory, and familiarity with PPA structures, clauses, and the impact on bankability.
  • Experience in providing analysis to investors, developers, lenders and off-takers, based on detailed quantitative analysis and providing advice grounded in facts.
  • Familiarity across the regulatory structures in the Japan power market.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Japanese.
