Senior Database & Security Administrator (8+ Years Experience)

About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Database & Security Administrator to lead the design, optimization, security, and lifecycle management of our database environments. This role requires someone who understands both database engineering and modern cybersecurity practices, ensuring our data systems remain fast, reliable, and fully protected from internal and external threats.

The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical skills, proven leadership, and the ability to operate in mission-critical production environments.

Key Responsibilities Database Administration

• Architect, install, configure, and support enterprise databases (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle, or similar).
• Optimize database performance, indexing, partitioning, query tuning, and storage management.
• Implement high-availability and disaster recovery strategies (clustering, replication, log-shipping, backups).
• Manage database lifecycle: upgrades, migration, patching, and capacity planning.
• Monitor health, performance, and resource utilization using professional tools and dashboards.
• Develop and enforce database standards, SOPs, and documentation.

Security Administration

• Maintain end-to-end security of databases, servers, and applications according to industry best practices.
• Implement and manage authentication, authorization, RBAC, encryption, and audit policies.
• Monitor and respond to security alerts, logs, and incidents across database and server layers.
• Conduct periodic vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and compliance audits.
• Implement firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, SIEM monitoring, and zero-trust access controls.
• Ensure secure backup, recovery, and data-loss prevention mechanisms are in place.
• Lead incident response for database breaches, leaks, or performance attacks (SQL injection, DDoS, privilege misuse, etc.).

DevOps & Cloud Integration

• Support database deployments in on-prem, hybrid, or cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Automate tasks using scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage cloud database services (RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL).
• Work with developers to optimize schemas, queries, APIs, and data flows.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of experience in database administration, security engineering, or a hybrid DB/Security role.
• Strong hands-on experience with MySQL / MSSQL / PostgreSQL (any combination is fine).
• In-depth understanding of database replication, clustering, failover, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
• Advanced understanding of network and system security, firewalls, encryption, IAM, and compliance standards.
• Strong experience with Linux/Windows server administration.
• Experience with security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, GDPR, PCI-DSS (as relevant).
• Ability to troubleshoot complex performance, networking, or security issues quickly.
• Strong analytical thinking, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as
• CEH, Security+, CISSP, OSCP
• MCSA/MCSE, Oracle DBA, AWS/Azure certifications
• Experience with enterprise monitoring platforms (Zabbix, Prometheus, Graylog, Splunk, ELK, Nagios).
• Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) or container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience leading small teams or mentoring junior administrators.

Pay: AED15,000.00 - AED20,000.00 per month
