The senior graphic designer (media) is an expert in publication design and production process from editorial through final execution (distribution or deployment) of print and/or digital products.
A self-starter with the ability to design and produce multiple SME Media publications – Manufacturing Engineering, Smart Manufacturing, Custom Supplements, Yearbooks and Event Directories. Proven track record of leading publication design from conception to final execution.
The senior graphic designer (media) is responsible for maintaining an extensive library of existing and newly created templates as needed using InDesign/InCopy. Maintain brand continuity and visual appearance in print and digital products. Works directly with editors and VP of Media to hit deadlines, and create custom advertising to support the publication customers. This position is responsible for performing prepress and file prep for print, web, email campaigns, and all digital assets to support media and publications. Troubleshooting and planning with our vendor partners and service providers.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
- Work independently to prepare all files for publications: print, web, email blasts, flipbooks and additional digital assets as needed.
- Maintain the template library for all publications. Create new templates as needed in InDesign/InCopy.
- Work directly with editors on issues that arise, ad design, and advertising that affect production schedule.
- Lead the layout and producing of all publications, yearbooks, internal/external supplements and directories
- Collaborate with marketing staff to plan, create and produce event directories.
- Troubleshoot issues and prepare for changes/upgrades pertaining to the Woodwing server, Smart connection within InDesign.
- Planning and scheduling our publications; workflow and due dates with key staff.
- Work directly with printers on issues, proofs, and uploading files and final proofing.
- Collaborate with the sales team, advertising customers, and SME staff to help create ads and that are print ready for placement in our publications.
- Design/layout of ads for customers – using customer’s brand guidelines.
- Participate in media team meetings to develop solutions and streamline changes.
- Participate in creative team meetings and design publication covers as needed.
- Proactively research and learn new digital media platforms and best practices within digital media to support/grow SME Media.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in graphics discipline and or media design
- At least 5 to 7 years’ work experience in related field
- Effective written and oral communication skills required; coaching skills desirable
- Great attention to details.
- Advanced level of proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Elvis, Microsoft Suite as well as advanced/expert skill level in pre-press and sending files to printer for proofing.
- Expert in the printing processes and working with print/media vendors.
