The Category Lead – CAPEX & MRO plays a crucial role in ensuring timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement for all capital and maintenance requirements in Animal Feed business of Godrej Agrovet Ltd. As GAVL continues to invest in Greenfield projects, capacity expansions, automation upgrades, and modernization, this role serves as key driver of business growth, operational reliability and cost efficiency.
Role Summary
To lead and manage the
procurement of CAPEX projects, engineering spares, and consumables
with a strong focus on developing optimal sourcing strategies, ensuring robust vendor performance, and aligning with cost, quality, and delivery benchmarks. In this role, the incumbent will lead a team of experienced buyers in collaboration with business heads, technical, project, legal and finance teams to drive strategic , technology-led procurement, and vendor performance management in order to achieve business results.
Key Deliverables

CAPEX Procurement & Project Sourcing
-
Develop and execute
CAPEX procurement strategies
for
Greenfield, Expansion, and Modernization projects (Domestic & Imports).
-
Identify and source
Plant & Machinery, Civil, PEB, MEP, Firefighting Systems, Utilities, HVAC
, Miscellaneous works like insulation, painting, site enabling works and other engineering packages.

Lead
end-to-end sourcing process
– from RFQ, bid evaluation, techno-commercial negotiation, and contracting to project closeout. Define and negotiate
supply agreements, warranties, performance guarantees
, and payment terms.

Manage supplier relationships and ensure
on-time delivery
against project milestones.

Conduct
budget vs. actual analyses
and propose cost-optimization actions.

Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and statutory obligations. Drive vendor standardization and prequalification frameworks for major categories.

Design SOP for strengthening existing processes as well as new procurement processes.
2.Engineering Spares & MRO Procurement
-
Manage the complete spend of Engineering Spares and MRO items to ensure equipment uptime, reliability, and operational efficiency across all manufacturing facilities. Key categories includes
Mechanical Spares, Electrical & Instrumentation
,
Automation & Controls, Utilities & Process Spares, Consumables & Tools, Civil & Structural Maintenance, Safety & Environment etc

Lead and mentor team of experienced buyers to excel in functional and overall business KPIs.

Develop
category strategies
, standardizing procurement practices, and driving
cost optimization, supplier performance, and localization
initiatives in close coordination with maintenance, engineering, and regional procurement teams

Establish
framework agreements
and
rate contracts
for recurring MRO categories to enhance sourcing efficiency

Ensure
on-time availability
through forecasting and coordination with maintenance teams.

Support
inventory optimization
through collaboration with stores and operations.

Travel extensively for market research, strategic vendor development, local vendor identification, etc. for selected categories of high value spares.
3.Technology & Systems Enablement
-
Leverage
SAP
for all procurement activities including POs, LOIs, GRNs, and analytics.

Deploy
e-procurement platforms
for RFX management and
Reverse/Forward Auctions
for transparency and competitiveness.
-
Develop and maintain
digital dashboards
for spend analytics, supplier performance, and procurement KPIs
-
Innovate and implement
AI-driven analytics
for predictive sourcing and performance tracking
4.Vendor Development, Evaluation & Performance Measurement
-
Identify, qualify, and develop
strategic suppliers
for domestic and imported CAPEX & MRO spend
-
Establish
vendor evaluation systems
covering quality, delivery, financial stability, and innovation.
-
Maintain
supplier scorecards
aligned with KPIs and SLAs.
-
Conduct
supplier performance reviews
, corrective action tracking, and audits.

Import Operations & Logistics Management
-
Oversee
import procurement
ensuring compliance with
Customs, DGFT, and port regulations
.
-
Liaise with
Customs House Agents (CHAs)
for documentation, Bill of Entry, and duty payments.
-
Engage
Freight Forwarders and Transporters
for cost-effective international/domestic logistics.
-
Optimize
freight contracts, incoterms, and shipping schedules
to reduce lead times and costs.
-
Coordinate with finance for
import documentation, duty refunds, and compliance reporting
.
6.Performance Reporting & Continuous Improvement
-
Develop
procurement dashboards and MIS
tracking savings, lead time, and supplier KPIs.
-
Present
monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports
to management.

Lead
efficiency, process improvement, and compliance
initiatives using industry benchmarks
-
Ensure
timely closure of audit findings
and continuous process enhancements.
-
Conduct
training and capability-building programs
for procurement teams.
Qualification & Experience
-
Education – B. E. / B. Tech in Mechanical engineering/Electrical/Civil; MBA (preferred).
-
Experience:
8-10 years of experience, including a minimum of 3 years of
team leadership experience in CAPEX procurement
within large manufacturing organizations.

Proven experience in sourcing Civil contracts, mechanical, electrical and utility etc packages
-
Thorough Knowledge of Import procedures, documentation & at least 3 years of experience in handling imports and dealing with CHAs at multiple ports across India (including road ports).

Adept at using Reverse & Forward Auction platforms and other tech solutions to drive efficiency.

Greenfield Projects experience is a must.
