Job Overview:

The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of financial activities for a major construction project, directly from the project site. This role demands a highly experienced accountant who can independently handle all accounting functions—from data entry to financial statement finalization. The ideal candidate will ensure financial integrity, compliance, and efficiency, acting as the financial backbone of the project while collaborating closely with the site management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Independently manage all accounting processes for the project, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and general ledger entries.
  • Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and update project budgets, ensuring that all expenditures align with project goals and financial constraints.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports, including monthly project financial statements, cost variance reports, and cash flow projections.
  • Job Costing & WIP: Oversee job costing and Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, ensuring accurate tracking and allocation of project costs.
  • Revenue & Expense Management: Manage project billing, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, revenue recognition, and expense management.
  • Month-End Close: Conduct the month-end close process for the project, including reconciliation of accounts, preparation of journal entries, and finalization of financial statements.
  • Contract & Compliance Management: Review and manage all financial aspects of contracts, including subcontractor agreements, purchase orders, and change orders, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company policies.
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare for internal and external audits, providing all necessary documentation and explanations related to the project’s financial activities.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor project cash flow, ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet obligations. Manage payment schedules and liaise with banks or financial institutions as needed.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure the project complies with all relevant tax regulations, including sales tax, use tax, and payroll tax.
  • Site Collaboration: Work closely with the site management team, including project managers, engineers, and procurement staff, to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Software Utilization: Utilize construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks, Procore) for data entry, financial tracking, and reporting.
  • Financial Control: Implement and maintain robust financial controls on-site to prevent errors, fraud, and inefficiencies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a construction project accounting role.
  • Skills: Strong proficiency in construction accounting, including job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage of completion accounting.
