Key Responsibilities

  • Assessing Life, Accident, and Health risks, determining applicable terms and conditions, and ensuring accurate risk assessment.
  • Analyzing risk exposures, reviewing insurance and risk management requests, and ensuring that all required documentation is aligned with the risk being evaluated.
  • Evaluating and recommending the necessity of additional medical records, special examinations, and reports for comprehensive risk evaluation.
  • Reviewing medical case histories, laboratory data, and other relevant documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Presenting files for review by higher authorities when necessary, maintaining a high level of diligence.
  • Communicating effectively with applicants, agents, and healthcare providers to clarify underwriting decisions and requirements.
  • Managing complex underwriting calls and informing agents of decisions, requirements, delays, or procedures in a timely manner.
  • Adhering to all compliance requirements, including the reporting of suspicious transactions, screening procedures, and maintaining records as required by regulations.
  • Understanding and implementing auto underwriting systems, rules, and participating in product testing and design when required.
  • Frameworks, Boundaries, & Decision-Making Authority
  • Ensuring all underwriting activities comply with established regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments based on medical and financial guidelines.
  • Leveraging a deep knowledge of MetLife's products and relevant underwriting systems.
  • Staying informed of any legislative or regulatory changes that may affect underwriting processes.
  • Making decisions that align with MetLife s philosophy and underwriting manual.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Medical Underwriting, with a strong understanding of human diseases (e.g., Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology) and at least 10+ years of experience in underwriting.
  • Bachelors degree in a medicine (Pharmacy, dentistry, physical therapy, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Life, Accident, and Health underwriting, with preference for candidates with medical underwriting experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, medical tests, procedures, and health conditions.
  • Expertise in risk profiling and the ability to make sound medical and financial underwriting decisions.
  • Experience in management of auto-underwriting systems.
  • Relevant tertiary or professional qualifications are highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and logical thinking.
  • LOMA/ALU courses are preferred.
