POSITION SUMMARY

The successful candidate for this position is to ensure smooth operation of a retail fuel facility including a convenience store. All company assets must be maintained in a clean and professional manner. The candidate must have an excellent attitude and customer service skills, as well as leadership skills. High quality and effective personnel management skills are necessary and include interviewing, hiring, training, and terminating, as necessary. Candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all station operations are complete. A basic understanding of multiple customer payment systems and cash management equipment is beneficial. Prior experience with credit card payment systems and working knowledge of payment card Industry standards is helpful. Candidate is responsible for accurate bank deposits and cash drawer balancing. This position is a working Manager with daily in-station routines including operating a cash register as needed.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

A. JOB DUTIES

1. CUSTOMER SERVICE: This person will maintain effective communication with customers; sales representatives, associates, and superiors to ensure procedures operate within the framework of organizational goals and objectives.

2. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: This person will be responsible for the training and development of all new hires, as well as the further advancements of existing associates. Schedule writing to ensure proper customer service and staffing.

3. MANAGEMENT: This person will perform all necessary functions to operate a retail location in a corporate environment including product inventory management, (purchase, display and resale), placing orders and verifying vendor invoices and receipt of product.

4. CASH MANAGEMENT: This Station Manager will be balancing daily tills and station sales to ensure accurate bank deposits.

5. OVERSIGHT OF FOOD SERVICE: Actively oversees and works with the Food Services Manager to anticipate hot and cold food sales, prepare food, and maintain safe food handling requirements. Fill in when Food Services Manager is absent and assist in food preparation whenever needed.

6. PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS REQUIRED: Performs a variety of general duties, including telephone reception, ordering, and restocking products, cleaning and maintaining the facility to company and regulatory levels.

C. ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience)

1. Education: High School

2. Experience: A minimum of four years’ retail management experience is preferred. Must have general knowledge of accounting procedures. Must have experience in working with point-of-sale systems.

3. Licensure/Certification: Alaska food workers card required. Alaska Serve-Safe certificate also required. Shoreside will provide the required training for the Alaska Serve-Safe certificate.

4. Other Qualifications: Must be able to work cooperatively with others and communicate in writing and verbally effectively with others. Must possess the desire to achieve higher standards for self and others. Should be a team player that is willing to also learn from the team.

5. Attendance: Regular attendance is a requirement of this position. This position is “on-call” to all needs of the location.

6. English Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age due to tobacco sales. Professional, courteous internal and external customer service skills, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, and ability to operate station equipment including registers, phones, and gas pumps required. Possess ability to work well as part of a team and accept responsibility. Work overtime during busy season; manage stressful situations and multi-task.

Preferred that you already have current food worker's card, otherwise, have ability to secure food worker's card immediately upon hire.

Ability to pass training and commitment to comply with State requirements concerning tobacco sales.

Physical requirements:

You must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be on your feet for extended periods of time. Must be able to work around petroleum products, including fuel, motor oil, and propane gas. Also, must be able to work around cleaning agents such as soap, general cleaning solutions, etc. Tasks involve unpacking freight, loading shelves, cleaning, bending, reaching, lifting, kneeling, standing, walking.

Ability to pass pre-employment drug test.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a service station, so you will be working around motor vehicle fluids, including gasoline, diesel fuel, lubricants, windshield wash, anti-freeze, etc., as well as food products that may contain common food allergens. You may be required to go in and out of the service station to assist customers and thus be exposed to varying temperatures and weather conditions. You will be in contact with the public on a continual basis throughout your shift.
