Shop Drawing Draftman

A draftsman for facade and interior cladding in India is responsible for translating design concepts into highly detailed shop drawings and fabrication plans using CAD software. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a specific understanding of building materials and construction methods.

Job Description: Draftsman - Facade and Interior Cladding

Objective: To produce accurate, detailed technical drawings and plans for facade (curtain wall, glazing, ACP cladding, etc.) and interior cladding systems that comply with project specifications, industry standards, and local building codes in India.

Key Responsibilities:

• Shop Drawing Preparation: Create detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings from architectural and engineering sketches or design concepts.
• Material Specification: Detail material specifications, dimensions, tolerances, connection points, and fastening methods for various materials like aluminum, glass, steel, and ACP panels.
• Coordination: Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, interior designers, and fabrication/installation teams to ensure seamless integration of the cladding systems with the building's overall structure and other services (MEP, etc.).

• Compliance: Ensure all designs and drawings adhere to relevant local and international building codes, safety standards, and project-specific guidelines.

• Material Take-Off (MTO): Prepare accurate material quantity estimations and cutting lists for procurement and production teams.

• Revisions and Documentation: Review and revise drawings based on feedback, design changes, and site conditions, maintaining an organized system of documentation, revision logs, and RFI (Request for Information) records.

• Site Visits: Conduct occasional site visits to gather necessary measurements and information, and to ensure implementation meets design intent.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience:

• Education: A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Architecture is typically required.
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrable experience as a draftsman, with specific experience in facade design, glazing, curtain wall systems, or interior cladding projects in India.
• Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing previous, detailed technical drawings and projects.

Technical Skills:

• Software Proficiency: Mastery of Computer-Aided Design (AutoCAD) software is mandatory. Proficiency in 3D modeling/BIM software such as Revit, SolidWorks, Rhino, or SketchUp is a significant advantage.
• Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of facade and interior cladding systems, materials (aluminum, glass, ACP, steel), installation techniques, and manufacturing processes.
• Interpretation: Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex architectural, structural, and engineering drawings and specifications.
• Calculations: Basic mathematical skills for dimensions, scaling, and material estimations.

Soft Skills:

• Attention to Detail: Critical for ensuring accuracy in all drawings to prevent costly errors during construction.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse project stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to identify design conflicts or technical issues and propose practical solutions.
• Time Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
