The Social Media Fellow is responsible for creating and publishing engaging and high quality social media content for Luther College accounts in support of the college’s overall marketing strategy. This position is part of a team overseen by the director of marketing within the Division of Communication. The position assists in building brand awareness and increasing public reach for Luther College.

PAY: $16.47/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and publish content for Luther College on the flagship, music, and admissions social media accounts.
  • Maintain strategic content calendars, consulting necessary stakeholders, ensuring a variety of engaging content to social media followers.
  • Assist the director of marketing in implementing social media policies campus-wide and improving alignment with these policies.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with social media staff across campus (athletics, alumni), the digital content team, the media relations specialist, and the creative team.
  • Assist the director of marketing in developing, implementing, and measuring organic and paid social media to expand brand awareness, engage prospective students, and increase engagement in key college events.
  • Consult on social media best practices for staff, faculty, students, alumni and others as needed.
  • Monitor the public’s feedback and take appropriate action steps, when necessary (i.e. request for contact from college personnel, negative remarks, re-sharing positive experiences).
  • Use social analytics tools to monitor key performance indicators and report on metrics to track trends, assess strategies, and identify opportunities for improvement. Make specific recommendations on strategic shifts based on the data.
  • Collaborate with student workers to help create original social content, ensuring consistent brand voice and content aligned with the Luther brand and marketing goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, visual media, public relations or related field.
  • Experience representing an organization on social media; could be demonstrated via a job or internship, work study, student organization, etc.
  • Understanding of all major social media platforms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Photography, videography, and design skills are strongly desired.
  • Familiarity with representing a brand to the public with a consistent voice and message.
  • Ability to think strategically and make recommendations that support organizational priorities.
  • Drive to take on new initiatives and projects, and a passion for connecting with current students, prospective students and parents, alumni, friends of Luther College, and the Decorah community.
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to pick up new tools quickly.
  • Time management skills.
  • Willing to work occasional weekend hours in conjunction with special events.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Lifting up to 20 pounds
  • Desk work 4-8 hours a day
