Social Media Manager

The Chicago Education Advocacy Cooperative, known as ChiEAC, is a community rooted nonprofit that began in 2020 with one simple belief: students and families deserve real support, real opportunities, and real love in the pursuit of upward social mobility. Since then, our work has grown into a collective effort that blends education, advocacy, mental health, community storytelling, and digital outreach.

We are looking for a Social Media Manager who can help us tell that story. Someone who understands how social media can shift narratives, bring people together, and create visibility for the families, students, and communities we serve. This is not a mechanical posting job. This is a chance to help shape the public face of a Chicago based organization that is changing lives every single day.

As our Social Media Manager, you will guide how ChiEAC shows up across every digital platform. You will translate our mission into content that feels alive and honest. You will help us uplift voices that often go unheard. You will move between creative storytelling, strategy, cultural awareness, and data informed decision making. If you care about education, equity, and the transformative power of community centered work, you will feel right at home here.

Responsibilities

  • Develop social media strategies that uplift the ChiEAC mission and speak directly to the communities we serve.
  • Oversee the daily flow of content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, and any emerging platforms that help us reach more students and families.
  • Create meaningful content that reflects our values including videos, graphics, photography, Stories, Reels, carousels, and written posts.
  • Use creative tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to bring ChiEAC stories, campaigns, and community moments to life.
  • Maintain a consistent posting schedule through tools like Hootsuite or Buffer to ensure our voice remains active and engaging.
  • Track conversations about ChiEAC, our partners, and the broader education and advocacy landscape through social listening practices.
  • Conduct keyword research that helps our posts reach wider audiences and strengthens ChiEAC’s online presence.
  • Manage paid advertising campaigns focused on recruiting volunteers, supporting students, raising awareness, and boosting donation efforts.
  • Analyze engagement metrics using Google Analytics or similar tools to understand what resonates and to guide future content decisions.
  • Collaborate with our public relations team to support reputation management and strengthen media relationships.
  • Partner with designers, educators, and program leads to ensure visual and narrative consistency across platforms.
  • Engage directly with our community online by responding to comments, messages, and questions in ways that feel welcoming and human.
  • Stay aware of social media trends and platform changes to keep ChiEAC’s strategies fresh and relevant.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in social media management, digital marketing, or creative communications.
  • Strong design skills and the ability to create high quality visual content.
  • Familiarity with tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, Canva, or other scheduling and creative platforms.
  • Ability to use analytics tools for data informed storytelling and decision making.
  • Understanding of SEO practices and strategies for visibility.
  • Experience with paid ads on platforms such as Facebook or Meta Business Suite.
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities with an eye for clarity, tone, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, meet deadlines, and stay flexible in a fast paced nonprofit environment.
  • Strong relationship building skills and a natural ability to engage online communities.
  • Knowledge of branding, public relations, community advocacy, or education focused communication is preferred.
