Yorktel is currently seeking a Solutions Architect who will be responsible for supporting the Sales Team with pre and post sales efforts. The Solutions Architect will work closely with various departments to target, create, and ensure preparation and readiness to deliver the practice offerings. The Solutions Architect will attend customer meetings in person as well as via audio and/or videoconference. Gathering customer requirements, providing comprehensive technical solutions and proposals that include conceptual design drawings, bill of materials, integration services/labor pricing and scope of work/technical response plan for complex audiovisual, videoconference, digital media, broadcast systems and related network infrastructure. The Solutions Architect is a strategic, high impact and high visibility, individual contributor role within Yorktel and will support the Sales team using their technical expertise to increase business to the company.

Roles & Responsibilities

This position regularly works in a team of individuals with varying degrees of expertise and influences internal and external customers to achieve a mutually desirable outcome. This position makes recommendations to internal parties and customers in regard to concerns or issues, and ensure resolution of any problems working closely in conjunction with assigned clients. This position must regularly communicate answers to complex questions and respond to detailed inquiries about technical issues and how to resolve these issues. This position handles and is expected to protect all internal and external confidential information and must utilize discretion and judgment based on company policies and procedures. Responsible for interaction with all Operations and Corporate Services departments including, Purchasing, Accounting, Engineering, Production and Logistics to ensure the successful execution of all projects.

  • Responsible to develop system design drawings including, but not limited to audiovisual system diagrams and schematic drawings; architectural diagrams, drawings, and sketches; Design/Build and Bid/Build specifications; and operational capabilities narratives, etc.
  • Must have strong technical knowledge of Cisco WebEx Systems, Microsoft Systems, Poly Systems, Zoom Systems, Crestron XIO Systems, Pexip and other audio and video technologies.
  • Must be capable of properly designing Cisco WebEx, Microsoft, Poly, Pexip Microsoft Interop, and hybrid infrastructure solutions. Must also be able to read and correctly interpret and produce multiple formats of technical specifications, schematic drawings, and architectural diagrams.
  • Experience and/or strong working knowledge of multiple videoconference and voice collaboration platforms.
  • Provide technical support to the sales team in a comprehensive, thorough, detailed and time sensitive manner.
  • Intensive interface with clients and job sites to document customer requirements and job site conditions.
  • Provide and document customer design based on the client requirements and job site conditions.
  • Work directly with clients, architects, consultants and staff throughout the design development and delivery process with the support of the Manager of Solution Architects.
  • Develop Statement of Work for each job based on system design and customer requirements.
  • Develop system design drawings including, but not limited to, drawings and sketches; Design/Build and Bid/Build specifications; and operational capabilities narratives, etc.
  • Develop accurate job cost estimates for each job.
  • Provide technical response to the customer RFP/RFQ/RFI.
  • Be capable of working effectively and efficiently with support from other members of the engineering team.
  • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation and records.
  • Communicate effectively with internal staff, client representatives, cooperative trades, and subcontractors.
  • Effectively coordinate and manage multiple system design projects simultaneously.
  • Be responsible for successfully completing assignments on time and within budget.
  • Develop and conform to company technical standards and practices.
  • Extensive experience with designing custom solutions, architectural and facility concerns and solutions.

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in the use of diagrammatic software tools (such as Visio, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and general business software (Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Project).
  • Strong working knowledge of networks TCP/IP skills including video over IP, Voice over IP, streaming video, etc. desirable. Cisco experience is mandatory.
  • Ability to work independently without daily supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a high-performance team.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to document application architecture, configuration, use case, and work instruction.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting.

  • 3rd party vendor relationship management specific to application needs or concerns.
  • Good working knowledge of audiovisual control systems – Crestron / Extron / AMX, etc.
  • Ability to work with others in sometimes stressful and fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a customer design solution service area.
  • BA Degree or equivalent experience in a collaboration technical subject is desirable.
  • Use of software applications (Microsoft Office) in conjunction with desktop publishing and manipulation graphs, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Knowledge of cloud services such as WebEx, Teams, Zoom and Pexip.
  • Knowledge of Media Services software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visio.
  • Bi-Lingual capability is a plus.
  • Knowledge of H.323 Endpoints, Gateways, MCU’s, and Gatekeepers.
  • Knowledge of IP networks, components, or associated certifications.
  • Vendor specific certifications in the IT Industry (i.e., Cisco CCNA, Cisco CCNP Collab, Poly Infrastructure, Professional Pexip Tech Expert, Microsoft Certified with core Video and Voice certifications are a strong plus) and Audio/Visual industry.
  • InfoComm CTS certification with Advanced CTS-D certification desirable.
  • Certifications with AV Industry leaders desirable (Extron, AMX, Crestron, Biamp, etc.).

  • May require occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Requires extensive sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Domestic travel requiring multi-night stays within and at times outside the local work area.
  • Valid passport; International travel possible.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.

  • If permissible by applicable law, may be required as a condition of employment to complete a background check and/or drug test if required by law or by current or future contracts/clients/vendors, etc.
  • Must be willing to apply for security clearances (clearances may be required to work at certain customer locations).
  • May require off/afterhours support for maintenance work.
