Position Summary
The Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality instruction in Spanish language and culture. This role focuses on developing students’ proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and interacting in Spanish. The teacher plays a key role in promoting biliteracy and cultural understanding in a diverse learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging Spanish instruction aligned with state and local curriculum standards.
Support students in developing academic language proficiency in all language domains: speaking, listening, reading, writing, and interaction.
Plan and implement lessons that incorporate modeling, guided practice, and opportunities for independent language use.
Provide clear language supports to ensure student comprehension and success.
Assign meaningful homework and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Design and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and growth.
Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
Support school-wide testing and assessments, including participation in WIDA initiatives.
Participate in faculty meetings, conferences, and professional development activities.
Manage classroom materials and inventory effectively.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education or related field
Missouri State Certification in Secondary Education
Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Commitment to educational equity and serving historically underrepresented students
Professionalism and the ability to work effectively under pressure
Preferred Experience
3+ years of teaching experience in urban or underserved school settings
Proven track record of improving academic outcomes for minority or low-income students
Experience with data-driven instruction and classroom technology
Familiarity with PowerSchool and/or WIDA frameworks
