Blackberg Group is seeking an experienced, media-savvy Spokesperson to support a high-visibility communications program for major transportation and infrastructure projects across the Louisville region. This role is central to helping residents, media, and stakeholders understand upcoming improvements, traffic impacts, public safety messaging, and the long-term value of significant infrastructure investments.

You will serve as a public-facing representative in coordination with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Public Information Officer (PIO). This includes television, radio, print, digital/social media appearances, community events, crisis communication support, and rapid-response messaging. We are seeking contingent hires based on a pending contract award.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver unified messaging consistent with the District, ensuring the public understands project impacts, detours, safety considerations, and long-term infrastructure benefits.
  • Participate in press conferences, interviews, public meetings, and community events, representing the program with professionalism and clarity.
  • Support the development of talking points, FAQs, public statements, and crisis-response messaging for project milestones, incidents, and urgent communications needs.
  • Record on-camera content, short videos, social media explainers, and digital updates to enhance outreach and public understanding.
  • Assist with proactive storytelling efforts that highlight improvements, safety enhancements, and the value of ongoing infrastructure investments.
  • Coordinate closely with the public information officer, project contractors, creative teams, and other communicators to ensure consistency across all platforms.
  • Support emergency communications and rapid-response activities related to major Louisville-area projects, including closures, weather events, construction changes, and other time-critical situations.
  • Engage with stakeholders including local governments, businesses, neighborhoods, schools, and community organizations to share updates and answer questions.
  • Represent the District at community meetings, briefings, and public engagement events when delegated.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, public works, or government communications programs.
  • 5+ years of experience in public communications, media relations, journalism, broadcasting, public information, or a directly related field.
  • Demonstrated success serving as an on-camera and on-record spokesperson, including handling interviews and live media situations.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering, construction, or traffic information in clear, accessible terms for the public.
  • Proven ability to respond quickly to breaking news, urgent requests, or emergency communications needs.
  • Strong ability to maintain unified messaging and coordinate with leadership, government agencies, or public-sector partners.
  • Professional presence suitable for television and public settings.
  • Ability to adapt for time-sensitive updates or events.
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams on talking points, scripted content, and digital video materials.
  • Ability to travel to sites, events, and filming locations in the Louisville area as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Louisville-area media markets, local government entities, neighborhoods, and community dynamics.
  • Background in crisis communications, emergency response messaging, or urgent information dissemination.
  • Experience participating in or supporting public meetings, project briefings, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
  • Experience working with Department of Transportation, engineering firms, construction teams, or public-sector communications offices.
  • Knowledge of ADA/Section 508 considerations for video content.
  • Experience working within a multi-vendor environment or coordinating with multiple project communicators.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
