Job Description:

Senior Regulatory Compliance Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Sr. Compliance Engineer with advanced expertise in RF, EMC, and product safety compliance to lead global certification efforts for our electronic and wireless systems. In this role, you will be responsible for both hands-on pre-compliance testing and the oversight of third-party certification labs to ensure our products meet international standards and regulatory requirements across North America, Europe, and other global markets.

This position will interface closely with design engineering, quality, program management, and external agencies. You will act as a subject matter expert for key directives and standards such as FCC, ISED, CE (LVD, EMC, RED), EN/IEC safety, and wireless/RF protocols, guiding product compliance from early development through to global market access.

Core Responsibilities

  • Pre-Compliance Testing & Debugging
Conduct internal EMC, RF, and Safety evaluations using lab equipment (Spectrum analyzers, signal generators, multimeters, leakage current testers, ground bond testers, high-pot testers). Identify design risks early and provide actionable feedback to engineering teams to reduce certification delays.

  • Third-Party Lab Oversight
Manage relationships and activities with NRTLs and accredited labs (e.g., UL, TUV, Intertek). Review and approve test plans, resolve technical issues during testing, and validate reports for compliance submissions.

  • Global Certification & Regulatory Strategy
Drive compliance efforts for FCC Part 15 (Subpart C), ISED Canada, EU RED, EU LVD, EU EMC, and other global frameworks. Stay current on evolving standards and regulatory landscapes to proactively guide product development.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams to embed compliance considerations into product design. Provide regulatory guidance from concept to launch.

  • Documentation & Submission Ownership
Prepare and manage technical files, risk assessments, FCC filings, and Compliance reports to support CE marking and other certifications.

  • Technical Documentation: Develop and review technical documentation detailing compliance status, test plans, product descriptions, and reporting materials in line with agency and internal requirements.

  • Testing Support & Travel: Provide hands-on support for certification testing as needed, including at international test labs. Occasional travel within LATAM (<25%) is expected to support in-country testing or inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of regulatory compliance experience, including Safety, EMC, RF, Wireless, or Environmental domains.

  • Minimum of 5 years of certifications work with or for a compliance lab (e.g., UL, SGS, TUV, Bureau Veritas, Intertek).

  • Experience working with FCC, ISED, EU notified bodies, NRTLs, and global certification entities.

  • Ability to interpret standards, propose test strategies, and influence design changes for compliance.

  • Expertise in leading certification efforts for:

    • EMC: IEC 61000-6-2, IEC 61000-6-4, EN55032, EN55035

    • RF/Wireless: ETSI EN 301-489-1, EN 301-489-17 , ETSI EN 300 328, FCC Part 15 Subpart C (15.247)

    • Safety: EN61010-1, EN62368-1

  • Ability to lead compliance reviews, propose test strategies, and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical lab testing, including use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, insulation resistance testers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

  • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced, hardware-intensive development environments.

  • Able to travel up to 25% regionally and internationally.

Additional Experience (Preferred)

  • Skilled in compliance documentation, technical writing, and risk analysis.

  • Proficient in project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Jama, Confluence).

  • Strong technical communication and presentation skills, including proficiency in PowerPoint and technical reporting.

  • Ability to manage multiple certification projects independently with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills and analytical mindset.

  • Proficient in MS Excel for technical data management.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel (<25%) for lab testing, agency engagement, and compliance support.
