Role Snapshot

As a Stainless Steel Railcar Fabrication Welder, you'll work in a high-energy production environment assembling precision railcar structures using modern jigs, fixtures, and state-of-the-art welding equipment.

A Day in the Shop

  • Suit up and follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE.
  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, and orderly work area.
  • Fit, tack, and weld components into subassemblies and complete car bodies per detailed drawings and fixtures.
  • Weld in compliance with specified welding standards and ensure dimensions meet drawing tolerances.
  • Diagnose and repair fabrication errors following defined repair procedures.
  • Operate hand, power, and welding tools safely and effectively.
  • Document work orders and quality records; accurately record labor hours.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality workmanship and meet schedule, quality, and labor targets with limited supervision.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–5 years of MIG welding experience focused on stainless steel, or completion of an accredited welding program plus 2 years of MIG experience.
  • Solid general mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic English skills to read instructions and communicate effectively.

Bonus Points

  • AWS certification in stainless steel GMAW 3G (vertical up) and 4F (overhead).
  • Working knowledge of GTAW (TIG).

Physical & Work Environment

  • Frequently walk; reach; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb; crawl in tight spaces; balance; talk and hear.
  • Lift and move up to 40 pounds.
  • Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Welders must wear a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) and other required PPE.
  • Work may occur in non-climate-controlled areas and in inclement weather when required.

Compensation & Location

This role is based in Sacramento, CA. Starting hourly rate: $21.50. A 10% shift differential applies to 2nd shift. Actual compensation may be lower or higher depending on budget as well as your experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
