Job Purpose

The Stock Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate stock levels, ensuring efficient stock movement, minimizing losses, and supporting smooth operational flow across the business. This role plays a critical part in preventing stock-outs, overstocking, shrinkage, and ensuring product availability for sales and production.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor and maintain accurate stock records across all storage locations (warehouse, stores, etc.)

- Perform regular cycle counts, spot checks, and full physical stocktakes

- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, damages, losses, and variances

- Receive incoming goods: verify quantities, quality, and documentation against purchase orders

- Process stock transfers, issues, returns, and write-offs in the system

- Ensure proper stock rotation (FEFO/FIFO) and storage conditions

- Maintain optimal stock levels by analyzing usage trends and raising reorder alerts

- Liaise with purchasing/procurement to ensure timely replenishment

- Coordinate with sales, production, and logistics teams to fulfill orders accurately and on time

- Generate and analyze stock reports (aging, slow-moving, negative stock, ABC analysis, etc.)

- Identify and implement improvements in stock control processes and systems

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse/stockroom environment

- Enforce compliance with health & safety and company policies

- Assist in month-end and year-end closing procedures related to inventory valuation

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Proven experience (2–5 years) as a Stock Controller, Inventory Controller, or similar role in warehouse/retail/manufacturing

- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail

- Proficient in inventory management software/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage, Odoo, QuickBooks, Fishbowl, or similar)

- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)

- Solid understanding of inventory control methods (FIFO, FEFO, cycle counting, ABC analysis)

- Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines

- Good physical stamina (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods may be required)

- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field

- Certification in inventory management (e.g., CPIM, CIPS, or equivalent) is an advantage

- Forklift license (if applicable to your operation)

- Experience with barcode/RFID scanning systems
