Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Logistics General Manager to strategically lead and optimize our inbound and outbound logistics operations nationwide across multiple service centers. This high-impact role is crucial for ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of goods, and for delivering exceptional customer service to our clients.
The ideal candidate must be highly analytical, self-driven, and possess deep experience in supply chain management, particularly with food distribution and USDA programs. The role requires proficiency in data analytics to drive continuous process improvement. You will manage a team of 10+ transportation professionals across multiple states and time zones, overseeing operations at the following key locations: Lacey, WA; Sacramento, CA; Palmdale, CA; Fontana, CA; Peoria, AZ; Irving, TX; Minooka, IL; Daytona, FL; Allentown, PA; Ruther Glen, VA; Franklin, KY; and Hartford, CT. A strong preference will be given to candidates local to Southern California.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management
- Directly manage, mentor, and develop a team of 10+ logistics professionals located throughout the United States, ensuring effective collaboration and performance across different time zones.
- Oversee logistics operations for key service centers in Lacey, WA; Sacramento, CA; Palmdale, CA; Fontana, CA; Peoria, AZ; Irving, TX; Minooka, IL; Daytona, FL; Allentown, PA; Ruther Glen, VA; Franklin, KY; and Hartford, CT.
- Establish and monitor KPIs and metrics, lead quarterly performance reviews, and foster skill development within the team.
- Serve as a primary logistics contact for customers, providing timely communication, resolving issues, and ensuring high satisfaction.
Logistics Strategy and Optimization (Data-Driven)
- Function as a self-motivated, analytical leader capable of managing multiple states and operations simultaneously.
- Plan, schedule, and route transportation services (selecting carriers, negotiating rates, consolidating shipments) to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
- Utilize strong data analytics skills to analyze data, identify areas for improvement, reduce transportation costs, and enhance overall supply chain efficiency.
- Collaborate with Logistics and Service Center Managers to implement best practices and continuous process improvement through key analytics.
- Monitor transportation costs and manage budgets for transportation and warehouse operations.
Coordination and Compliance
- Liaise with internal departments (accounting, production), external carriers, suppliers, and customers to resolve complex problems (e.g., supply chain disruptions, staffing issues) and ensure seamless coordination.
- Prepare financial and management reports, present industry rate trends, and align logistics operations with broader business objectives.
- Ensure all operations adhere to company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards, including OSHA.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in traffic management, focusing on managing inbound/outbound shipments, vendor coordination, damaged goods claims, and team leadership across multiple time zones.
- Essential Experience: Proven experience in Food Distribution and familiarity with USDA programs/logistics.
- Specific Product Experience: Experience handling the logistics for diverse food categories, including wet, dry, and perishable goods, is highly desirable. Experience managing supply chain logistics within a retail environment is a plus.
- Required Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities, high self-motivation, and demonstrated proficiency in Data Analytics and complex problem-solving.
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing diverse, geographically dispersed teams (10+).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and logistics-specific systems (e.g., TMW, WMS, Road Net TMS, Truckmate, PC Miler, Qualcomm GPS, Load Boards, Freight Calculators).
- Ability to travel as required (up to 50% to locations listed above) and work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in warehouse/service center environments with variable temperatures.
- Must be able to safely operate around heavy moving equipment in a fast-paced setting.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
