About the role


A System Engineering Manager, manages a team of Systems Engineers working within Datacentre Network, Point of Presence(PoP) core networks, Public/Private cloud solutions(IAAS, PAAS, SAAS) & Security function. They have responsibility for network infrastructure* in terms of service levels, improvements, technology direction and people management. He /She will be proficient in Network technologies, Network automation & observability tools but will be focused on building a team that can run with the technical work in the most efficient and optimal manner.

You will be responsible for


Manage activities of members of the systems engineering job family, building a team culture for continuous improvement and environment where engineers want to work. You will recruit and support the development of members of staff. • Ensure your team meets exceeds required quality standards, commitments, service assurance and objectives. • Drives adoption of Evaluate new tools, techniques & processes and being able to understand their value and impact. • Understand current application development techniques (12 factor app) and its implications to infrastructure • Build/Manage a team with structure and capabilities to support incidents in live manage RUN (IM,PM,CM etc) of the network infrastructure and support the relationship to Engineering. • Strong background in ITIL or similar process-oriented framework • Keep technical skills up to date and keep track of new technologies, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco. • Manage team performance and improve capabilities by defining training plans, objectives, providing feedbacks • Spot talent/high performance in the team and providing timely reward and recognition. • Responsible for Service introduction for transformation programmes in network area • Responsible for Network Capacity Management & Release management • Experience in building long-term automation strategy for network operations. • Ability to identify manual tasks and convert them into automated workflows with measurable outcomes. • Understanding of AIOps concepts and leveraging AI/ML for anomaly detection and predictive insight. • Roadmap planning for observability maturity, including shift from monitoring to full-stack observability. • Managing external suppliers and responsible for measuring, improving service provided. • Managing stakeholder communication and escalations. • Proactive approach to identifying risks and driving improvements. • Experience in operating within a large, global managed service framework.

You will need


Technical skills – Datacentre network technologies including Routing & Switching, Loadbalancing, Network security (Firewalls, VPN, Proxies, SSL Certs), DNS/DHCP. Knowledge in Design & Implementation of advanced networking architectures and interconnectivity options(i.e IPVPN, multiprotocol label switching(MPLS), Virtual private LAN services(VPLS) Experience in Design & Implementation of Data Center Networks involving Cisco Nexus, Arista & Advanced Switching technologies (FHRP / VPC / VDC ) Knowledge of CIDR and sub-netting (IPv4 and IPv6); IPv6 transition challenges and generic solutions for network security features, including WAF, Intrusion detection & prevention systems(IDS/IPS), DDoS protection and economic denial of service/sustainability(EDoS). Knowledge of Public cloud (AWS, Azure) and private cloud technologies - Vmware/NSX, SDDC, SDN, Openshift. Familiarity with the development of Automation scripts and monitoring/observability tools, AI Ops. Educational Qualifications: BE/Btech or Equivalent degree, Years Of Experience: 12+
