Job Description:

This Transportation Engineer III – Senior Designer position is a professional civil engineering position that is an expert in various aspects of highway design, with an overall focus on roadway drainage and hydrology & hydraulics analysis . The Senior Designer provides advanced design support on complex highway projects including oversight and review of both preliminary and final design with particular attention to roadway drainage, hydraulic capacity of all cross structures, consistency of analysis & design , and cost.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Providing training and mentoring to in-house staff as well as consultants,

• Determining and interpreting design standards,

• Providing drainage review to all Highway and Regional Program projects and other Programs as needed

• Working with the Department’s Environmental program to provide hydrology data necessary for hydraulic analysis and sizing of cross structures (large culverts, cross pipes, etc.)

• Helping to determine relevant Engineering Instructions and Highway Design Guidance.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Licensure as a Professional Engineer plus two (2) years of work experience beyond such licensure which demonstrates the performance of significantly complex engineering science, competency in evaluating risk, and applying sound engineering judgement as it applies to planning, project development, and/or maintenance of public works structures and facilities.

Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Licensure as a Professional Engineer as issued by the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
