Position Summary
Benshaw is seeking a highly skilled
UL Compliance Engineer with specialized expertise in
UL 347A (Solid-State Motor Controllers) and
UL 508A (Industrial Control Panels) to support certification activities for our industry-leading soft starters, drives, and engineered control solutions. This role ensures that Benshaw products meet or exceed all UL and safety regulatory requirements, enabling safe, reliable operation across industrial, OEM, and custom-engineered applications.
As a key member of the R&D team, the UL Compliance Engineer will guide design compliance, manage certification projects with UL, and maintain the technical rigor that underpins Benshaw’s reputation for rugged, reliable motor control solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesUL Certification & Regulatory Compliance-
Lead certification efforts for Benshaw’s solid-state motor controllers, soft starters, and custom control panels to UL 347A, UL 508A, and related industrial standards.

Review and validate engineering designs to confirm compliance with UL, NEC, NEMA, and Benshaw internal requirements.

Serve as Benshaw’s primary technical liaison with UL and other NRTLs during certification projects, audits, and Follow-Up Services.

Evaluate engineering changes (ECRs/ECOs) for impacts on UL certifications and guide teams toward compliant solutions.
Testing & Evaluation-
Define, execute, and document engineering tests required to demonstrate compliance with UL 347A and UL 508A, including dielectric, temperature rise, short-circuit, abnormal condition, and endurance testing.

Support development of qualification test plans for new products and major design revisions.

Troubleshoot and resolve compliance-related issues, collaborating with design, manufacturing, and quality engineering.

Liaison directly with the UL test and compliance engineers while working on projects to ensure projects are completed correctly and to schedule

Lead discussions with suppliers on any issues or concerns regarding UL compliance

Support technical discussions with customers on UL compliance concerns
Documentation & Process Control-
Create and maintain UL-compliant technical construction files (TCFs), drawings, schematics, bills of material, and wiring diagrams.

Develop and maintain Benshaw’s UL documentation report on any upcoming UL revisions and how it will affect current product

Support UL Follow-Up Services by ensuring manufacturing processes and materials remain compliant with certified designs.
Cross-Functional Support & Training-
Work closely with R&D engineering teams to integrate compliance requirements early in the product development cycle.

Work closely with production engineering to ensure UL compliance with non-standardized products

Work closely with the application engineering team to develop custom solutions that can be UL labeled.

Provide training on UL 347A, UL 508A, and related requirements to engineering and production personnel.

Support customer-facing teams with compliance questions, certifications, and documentation requests.
QualificationsRequired-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical field.

10+ years of direct experience with UL standards and certification processes, with hands-on involvement in UL 347A and/or UL 508A projects.

Strong understanding of industrial motor control, power electronics, and high-power switching technologies.

Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.

Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, NEMA standards, SCCR determination, and industrial control applications.
Preferred-
Experience working with solid-state motor controllers, soft starters, drives, or high-power industrial control systems.

Prior involvement in UL 508A panel shop certification or equivalent.

Experience coordinating with UL, ETL, CSA, or other certification bodies.

Knowledge of IEC motor control standards (e.g., IEC 60947 series), CE/EMC compliance, and global regulatory frameworks.
