Position Overview
Promesa Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Upper Elementary Literacy Teacher to join our K–5 campus. This educator will design and deliver rigorous, engaging literacy instruction that strengthens reading comprehension, writing proficiency, vocabulary development, and critical analysis of rich and diverse texts. The Literacy Teacher will collaborate closely with grade-level teams to ensure instruction is aligned with state standards, grounded in research-based literacy practices, and connected to meaningful, real-world learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high-quality, standards-based literacy lessons that build strong comprehension, writing, fluency, and analytical thinking skills.
Cultivate a joyful, student-centered reading environment that encourages curiosity, discussion, and a deep love of literature.
Utilize a range of text types—novels, poetry, informational texts, biographies, culturally relevant stories—to broaden students’ understanding and perspective.
Implement research-based strategies, including guided reading, close reading, reading/writing workshop models, and structured discussion protocols.
Use ongoing formative assessments to monitor progress and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Provide targeted writing instruction that supports narrative, expository, and persuasive writing development.
Collaborate with grade-level teams to align curriculum, analyze student work, and share best instructional practices.
Integrate social-emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching, and equity-driven literacy practices into daily instruction.
Communicate consistently with families to support students’ reading growth and celebrate academic successes.
Participate in professional development and contribute to the continuous improvement of Promesa’s literacy program.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Literacy, or a related field
Strong understanding of literacy pedagogy and upper-elementary ELA standards
Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging literacy-focused classroom environment
Preferred:
Experience teaching literacy or ELA in an upper-elementary setting (3rd–5th grades)
Familiarity with evidence-based literacy frameworks (e.g., Balanced Literacy, Reading/Writing Workshop, Wit & Wisdom, Amplify CKLA)
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills
