The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I in our Water Production Division. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic I position works independently in the maintenance and repairing of water pipelines and various types of equipment. This position performs inspections daily; verifies and documents operating system conditions. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic I also maintains records and prepares reports on machinery and activities.

Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To

 Performs minor overhauls, repairs, replacement and maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, chemical feeders, hydraulic equipment, mixers and other water treatment equipment.
 * Performs inspections daily; verifies and documents operating system conditions.
 * Maintains accurate records and prepares reports on machinery and activities.
 * Must be able to read manuals and troubleshoot problems.
 * Climbs ladders and stairs, bends, walks, pushes, pulls, stoops and lifts up to 75 lbs. throughout an 8 hour work day; works in limited access and confined space areas; must be able to wear respiratory equipment.
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, and technical processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

One year in machinery repair or maintenance required.
The desired candidate will possess two years of machinery repair or maintenance experience.Â
Valid Driver's License required.
Work Hours:Â Monday - Friday; 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Work Location: Western Branch Pumping Station located at 113 Lockwood Cir, Suffolk, VA 23434 Â
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
