You will be responsible for overseeing all operations within the warehouse, specifically focusing on the efficient and safe handling, storage, and distribution of custom millwork products. This role requires a blend of leadership, logistics expertise, and a deep understanding of inventory control and safety standards related to lumber and finished wood products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee Inventory Control: Manage and maintain accurate inventory levels for all raw materials (lumber, hardware) and finished millwork products
- Shipping and Receiving: Direct the timely and accurate receipt, inspection, and storage of incoming materials and the picking, staging, and loading of finished orders for shipment
- Layout Optimization: Plan and optimize the warehouse layout and storage design (e.g., racking systems) to maximize space utilization and improve the flow of goods
- Coordinate Transport: Manage logistics for transporting products, including negotiating with carriers and ensuring compliance with all transport regulations
- Staff Supervision: Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate the warehouse team (supervisors, material handlers, forklift operators, drivers)
- Scheduling and Workflow: Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and manage workflow to ensure maximum floor productivity and efficiency, minimizing overtime while meeting customer deadlines
- Performance Management: Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and implement disciplinary actions as needed to maintain high performance standards.
- Safety Protocol Enforcement: Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive safety and security protocolsin compliance with OSHA and company standards, focusing on the safe handling and storage of bulky, heavy, or long millwork items
- Equipment Maintenance: Schedule and oversee regular inspections and maintenance of all warehouse equipment, including forklifts, machinery, and vehicles, ensuring they are in safe and working order
- Housekeeping: Ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times
- Process Improvement: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, fulfillment speed, and inventory turnover. Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Budget Management: Contribute to the annual warehouse budget, manage expenditures, and analyze variances to achieve financial objectives
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with sales, production, and procurement teams to ensure a smooth flow of materials and timely order fulfillment
Skills required:
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in warehouse management within the millwork, lumber, building materials or construction industries
- Millwork Knowledge: Familiarity with the dimensions, handling requirements, and quality standards for millwork products (e.g., pre-hung doors, moldings, cabinetry).
- Certifications: Valid forklift operator license is typically required; OSHA certification is a strong plus
- Leadership: Strong ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address logistical issues, inventory discrepancies, and operational challenges.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills for liaising with staff, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
- Customer Service: Commitment to high-quality customer service, ensuring accurate and timely delivery to contractors and customers.
- Ability to work full-time in our Reno facility with occasional weekend hours
- Ability to work in the US, now and in the future without sponsorship
- Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds frequently and on occasion may be required to lift and carry, with assistance, up to 200 pounds
- May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing or kneeling
- Must be able to physically operate delivery vehicles (climb up and down into cab or climb on top of load, twist torso for 360 degree visibility, use arms to operate controls, etc.)
- Must be able to work in warehouse with minimal temperature control - warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter
- Typical schedule 6 am to 2:30 pm, overtime common. Occasional weekend hours
- Ability to read and speak the English language
