Shift Production Manager

Job Summary: Primary responsibilities for the Shift Production Manager are to coordinate and direct the daily activities in production, with a primary focus on the Pack-Smart department. This role includes managing the facility during weekend shifts to ensure adherence to safety, quality, maintenance and security standards. Other primary responsibilities include tracking material waste and resolving quality issues across the shift. Shift Supervisors will take daily directions from the Shift Production Manager interacting in all aspects of card production. Other duties include coordination with other departments to satisfy customer needs for product and resolution of defective product issues.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage and coordinate activities of personnel in card manufacturing.

  • Manage the daily production schedules and coordinate work activities with the respective shift supervisors.

  • Coordinate activities with maintenance technicians to complete required machine maintenance and repair.

  • Monitoring productivity rates, standards and quality control.

  • Review and answer issues concerning quality or functionality of product as it is being produced and inspected.

  • Track and review waste from production process to ensure efficient material use.

  • Identify areas for improvement and implement process enhancements.

  • Communicating regularly with upper management regarding problems or issues impacting production.

  • Count raw material and work-in progress for month end inventory if needed.

  • Enforcing safety, health, environment and quality policies.

  • Motivating, supporting and providing guidance to production staff.

  • Setting productivity goals for each team and consistently evaluate against goals.

  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Perform these and other duties as assigned by Manager or other appropriate management personnel.

Schedule: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – 4:00 am to 4:30 pm*

  • Training will be conducted on the regular schedule of 6:00am to 4:00pm for about 1 month, subject to change.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated skill in development of leaders, managing multiple teams across shifts in a manufacturing environment and making process improvements.

  • Printing and Finishing industry experience preferred.

  • Lean manufacturing methodologies and practice experience preferred.

  • Attention to detail and strong decision-making skills.

  • Results-driven approach with confidence and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Previous experience supervising teams of 50 plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and computer skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, hear, and comprehend. The employee is required to stand for extended periods, walk and use hands for grasping and fine manipulation. The employee will be required to reach with hands and arms and must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Employee must be able to regularly push and pull loads using a pallet jack. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors from one another.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in an indoor setting with variable temperature conditions. The employee will be working around moving equipment and machinery and will occasionally be required to use hazardous chemicals with appropriate, required personal protective equipment. The employee may be exposed to minimal chemical smells and paper dust. The employee must be prepared to respond to emergencies should they occur. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
