Introduction
Aga Khan University (AKU), a private, self-governing international university chartered in Pakistan in 1983, is a role model for academic, research and service programmes in health and higher education in the developing world. The University currently has teaching sites in Pakistan, East Africa, the United Kingdom and Afghanistan, and is a major component of Aga Khan Development Network.
Aga Khan University Medical College is the first institute in Pakistan to include Family Medicine as a specialty at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department aspires to help policy makers to realize the pivotal role of Family Medicine in the health care delivery system in Pakistan. The department fosters a thriving, collaborative environment focused on quality care for the communities we serve, and excellence in education.
As part of its mission, the Department is launching the “Global Physician Programme”, a unique 2-year postgraduate training programme, specifically designed to train physicians to work in rural and remote settings. This multidisciplinary programme is primarily situated at Gilgit Medical Center (GMC) in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Responsibilities
You will have an independent consultant status with clinical responsibilities encompassing all areas of Family Medicine with special focus on clinical teaching in the Global Physician Programme. This would require spending 40-50% time in Gilgit, especially when trainees are on-site; liaising with consultants at GMC and starting clinical research projects that encompass both GB and Karachi. In Karachi, responsibilities would include clinical practice, teaching, research and specified administrative activities.
Requirements
Applicant for Senior Instructor should have completed a structured postgraduate training programme in Family Medicine from a reputable institution and possess FCPS, MRCGP, American Boards or equivalent qualification with at least one year of post-qualification experience with valid PMDC licensure.
Applicants for Assistant Professor should have at least three years of experience and a major contributor in two or more papers in peer-reviewed journals.
